Most of bunqers compared features between N26 and bunq... let me add another level, DNA or "the big picture".
N26 is now clearly more about products or 3rd party services. As most banks they offer overdraft, loans themselves, investment, insurance and savings products by 3rd party integrated into their app / cards. If you follow the news of N26 during the past months you will notice that development is almost all about that stuff. Well free N26 account can do all basic things in life for you... its like an old bank account in the mobile world. N26 earns even more money with premium account levels... currently one for 5,95 a month and soon another for 10-15 Euro a month.. in exchange you get even more products as mentioned above. IMHO who really need that? Big data is part of their DNA. But what about real new tools and features, game changer?...well... thats a different story... there are no since they became big.
Bunq has a different business model and thinking process. Beside sneak preview like free account level the focus is on premium for 7,99 individual or 9,99 business. Without offering loans and overdraft, investment, insurance or savings products all users pay a fair price for their service and have to, cause thats what keeps bunq running. In development bunq is focused on privacy, features, new ideas, reinventing the bank account. The API and SDK is another thing that differs bunq from N26. Its about developing the app or the banking account much further. They listen to an open bunq community, another big difference. Customer support is far better and communication as a whole as well as transparency is clearly beating N26.
N26 free is a workhorse account with overdraft and 1-2 cards... no fx fees at zero costs. Bunq is the future of banking. Everyone at bunq plus the community working for making it better and adding new features. No waste of creative energy with stupid products. Get both, bunq as main for serious banking and N26 as secondary account for overdraft and you are fine.
If I would compare it with smartphones..... N26 would be the latest development of the Nokia communicator and bunq would be the iphone. They just think differently.
