FloLoL79🌈 yes, but for a European payment scheme to compete with visa and mastercard, it's too late, they should've thought about that 20 years ago. now there's no choice left but to make visa debit or mastercard debit the default. because of the way our internationalised economy now works, if you want everyone to be able to pay electronically, minimum acceptance of visa and mastercard debit is or should be essential, basically every country except Netherlands, Belgium and Germany have realised this. Where we cling to Maestro and V-Pay, Belgium clings to Bancontact and Germany still to Girocard. it's stupid and ridiculous and hurts businesses and travellers alike.
The fact of the matter is, Mastercard and Visa have become the standard for debit payments pretty much everywhere, like they have for credit years ago. Belgium, The Netherlands and Germany can continue to deny this and cling to their local infrastructure but that will not protect the domestic industry at all like you claim. And the influence argument is ridiculous, visa or mastercard have no more or less influence then they already did...
the only thing that needs te be fixed is the attitude of business in these three countries to finally get with the times and allow for true global card acceptance to accept all costumers with any of the major cards, Visa, V-Pay, Maestro & MasterCard.
