There are two seperate problems here mixed together:
- Maestro Magstripe payments not working with bunq cards in a fallback scenario
- Shops in countries like germany not acception Maestro at all
In this case I am assuming the latter, too - like all other people commenting here.
There's nothing that bunq can do here, but it's not correct indeed that in germany "there should be no problem with Maestro" since in contrast to NL there is still the local girocard scheme going on strongly and there are MANY locations which simply don't accept anything else.
The marchants also often don't even understand that because most german girocards are co-branded with Maestro and carry that logo, meaning that they don't understand themselves that "Maestro only" cards will not work with their terminals because they simply don't know the difference.
Having said that, it would be nice to be able to enable the Maestro Magstripe functionality anyways with bunq cards since it's still possible that the Chip or Cardreader of the POS is broken and it really wants to fall back to Magstripe. This MAY be nice to have in some situations.
So +1 anyways even though it may not have anything to do with the OP's problem here.
