Hi! As many people know, I have been very sceptical about bunq. I will still give some feedback every now and then, because I a strongly believe a product can always be improved.
With every bank, you are at risk of being blocked. Most banks don't have a community and thus complaints are not on an own community. Check for big banks in The Netherlands and you will find enough bad reviews about arrogant staff and other problems. People make their complaints online but fail to give compliments.
My scepticism towards bunq started when my own bank account was blocked after a verification payment. But I was unblocked within 30 minutes. That was the ONLY time I have been blocked and I got some apologies about it.
I have seen a pattern in which persons are getting blocked. Many of these persons and even businesses don't comply with bunqs rules. It can be as simple as using your private account for commercial purposes. So, just comply with the rules and laws!
The other thing why people tend to get blocked: a bank is required to know its customers. So it needs to verify where the money comes from. This way money laundering and other illegal activities can be tracked down. bunq is a small bank and can't afford millions of fines like some other big banks do.
So, if it's unclear where the money came from and there is no way to trace it down, bunq could decide the risk profile ia too high and to block it.
Your bank account can also be blocked for your own good. For example, when the system thinks you paid for a fraudulent request (fake Tax Services, CBR etc) or when your account seems to be compromised.
I do not work for bunq and am not a compliance officer by any means. I came up with these conclusions after some thorough research I did. I am a journalist, so you can guess my hunger for info.
After I understood the whole thing, it gave my mind some peace and respect towards bunq. :)
