If I had to do an educated guess.....
As discussed many times before, bunq 🌈 has a completely different revenue model then other banks. So, all the operational and development costs are mainly financed by the membership fee. That is one of the main reasons why bunq 🌈 on the surface looks more expensive.
But John, why is the TC free then? Well, my bet is that TC is used as a smart conversion and marketing tool. So people will ultimately go for one of the paid memberships. It’s a common technique to gain more users.
The GC membership can’t be used as a conversation tool because it is a different product on his own. So, that means that bunq needs to make up for the operational and development cost by selling it as a paid membership. And of course bunq 🌈 also needs to make some profit. In that perspective it kind of makes sense to ask €99. And to be honest, I don’t think bunq makes a huge profit here. Especially since you needs large numbers to get the cost ratio down to an acceptable level.
But personally, I do think the €99 is a bit overpriced for those who already have a paid membership, simply because I think the operational cost are lower in that case.
But anyway, just my two cents on the matter ;)
