I've been thinking a bit about my suggestion and extended the idea to a larger service Bunq could offer to make them more unique compared to others. Based upon the Ford principle (people don't exactly tell what they want ("I want a faster horse")) regarding the way how Bunq users utilise their 25 possible bank accounts, I really think Bunq could offer an automated generated recurring/fixed charges bank account. Let me explain.
Apparantly, many Bunqers (what's the noun for our collective?) have a separate bank account of which they automatically pay their recurring payments. These expenses have to be paid for, so as per my suggestion, I would like to have enough money on the account at the first day of the month to pay all expenses for the forthcoming 31 days. Related to ING's featureset that offer an overview of future expenses, with a little machine learning, Bunq could 'easily' identify those recurring payments, add them to a separate list (bank account), generate the monthly expense total and automatically transfer that balance from your main account.
Once you set up your payment details with the specific company (i.e. your mortgage, rent, car lease, Netflix or any other recurring service), everything in the app is done automatically. In fact, with the QR function, you might not even need to enter your details, if done right. You'll always have a clear overview of what expenses you can expect, but you don't have to worry about them as the balance for these expenses will be taken care of automatically (assuming your income is monthly sufficient, of course), instead of you having to have a frequent ToDo on your list called "Top up recurring expenses account".
Separate accounts can give a good overview of your budgets, your money jars. This might create a little chaos, since all money you own is divided across those accounts. So if everything is automated, you don't have to worry whether there is enough money on the recurring expenses account.
This might seem a minimal thing with a lot of work, but it's quite the opposite. Since everything will be taken care of, you can enjoy your life as Bunq want you to have. With the right amount of designing this ideology, Bunq could really lift the bar up.
Obviously, this would raise some privacy concerns. However, as all transaction data is already on Bunq's servers, it's not getting worse. In fact, if it's automated, no one has to even see a thing.
Thanks for the great gif, Koen
P.S. are you looking for an interaction designer to work on this and future projects? π
