Of course, you are free to open or close any accounts you want. It will disable the AutoVAT feature though if you enabled that.

Das geht leider nicht. Die Fehlermeldung lAutet: ein abrechnungskonto kann nicht geschlossen werden solange noch ein anderes Konto aktiviert ist. Das andere Konto will ich aber nicht schließen. Was tun?

In that case somehow the VAT account is also your billing sub-account. You can change the billing account under Profile > My membership.
