In-app banner to update the bunq app

One of the nice things about Apple is that they keep your apps up to date without any thought. For most apps, I don't see any update in progress, I don't have to click any buttons. They're just there and up to date.
In the bunq app I now see a request to manually update:

Why is this better than the serene default where everything just works?

Wessel Android also updates apps in the background without you having to do anything (if you don't disable this feature in Google Play). But maybe bunq wants you to update as fast as possible when there's an update from a security perspective?

Well, it‘s an option, but not everyone has it activated and often it takes a long time to actually update apps. On the iPhones of my friends and family, there are usually tons of out-of-date app installations, so giving them a slight nudge is definitely a good thing.

I guess having some kind of time window after release of a new update before this message gets shown in the previous release would be a nice middle ground. Maybe like 1 week.

I frequently get this banner, even if there is no update available. It looks like when the app can’t make a connection fast enough, it forces you to update instead of stating that the connection is not working properly.

Is it an option to fix this issue?

I like always being up to date.

I also like to not have to worry about something.

The button to update me creates ‘work’ for me. I open the app for a task and there is an extra task (updating the app) provided for me.

It makes me feel using Bunq is not that effortless as I like it to be.

I like the suggestion of waiting 1-2 weeks before prompting people to update. This gives enough time for people who automatically update to hardly ever see it and have an effortless experience. It also makes sure other people will be encouraged to update.

Exceptions to be made when a new update ‘breaks’ any old functionality. But I guess it’s best practice to not create these kind of situations in the first place.
