Hannah Thanks to the integration of Wise (formerly TransferWise) into the bunq app, you can send money in different currencies. For South African accounts, you can choose between the South African rand (ZAR), Euro or US dollar.
When you choose ZAR, the payment will use the domestic South African payment network and for that reason will get faster to your recipient and your recipient won't have to pay any additional fees for receiving the money or for currency conversion because you already converted the money.
When you choose Euros or US dollars, then the SWIFT payment network is gonna be used. This means longer processing times and the potential for higher fees for the recipient. Some banks might even decline the payment if they cannot convert the respective currency themselves. In some edge cases it can be a better option, though. For example if the South African bank account that we're speaking about is maintained in Euros or US dollars.
Tl;dr: You probably want to choose Rand, except if you have a very special case.
