But with this update, we wanted to make sure that you can easily bank like a local with your bunq cards. From now on, thanks to AutoCurrency, you can keep money in the currencies you'll use and automatically pay in the local tender wherever you go.💸
How does AutoCurrency work?
Easy! All you need to have is a sub-account in the Local Currency and an active card. 💳
The way this cool feature works is wherever you go and with whichever card you pay, the app will automatically deduct the funds from the sub-account with the corresponding Local Currency.
For example: You go on a trip to the USA. Your card is linked to your EUR sub-account, but you have an active USD sub-account. When you make a card payment in the USA, the app will automatically deduct the funds from your USD sub-account so that you can save on conversion fees and extra costs 🚀

- How do I open a Local Currency sub-account?
You can create a sub-account and enjoy handling finances in multiple currencies by following the steps described here ✨
- What if I have more than two sub-accounts with the same Local Currency?
The app will deduct the funds from the sub-account where you have enough funds to finish the transaction.
- But I don't have enough money in the Local Currency account or I don’t have a Local Currency account at all, what’s gonna happen?
If you don’t have money on the relevant Local Currency sub-account or you don’t have one at all - don’t worry! The feature won’t be active in this scenario. If you don’t have enough funds, the app will ask you to top up your Local Currency account for next time. And if you don’t have a Local Currency account at all - you’ll be invited to open one 🙌
- I have Dual PIN activated for my card, will this feature apply to me?
If you use Dual PIN with your bunq card we won’t change your choice! The feature is applied for your selected cards, or all of them - up to you!
- Do I need to change the billing sub-account of my card every time?
No need to do anything! The feature works automatically, meaning that there’s no further action needed from your side. Enjoy your trip, we’ve got the rest covered! 💪
