Refunds and payments

Hi all! On one of my business accounts that I have, I keep getting payments and refunds for the samen amount. For instance: I pay for gas at a tankstation for 50,-. On my bank account it shows ‘-50,-‘, then a couple of minutes later it shows ‘+50,-‘ and then another few moments later ‘-50,-‘. It drives me crazy because it makes a mess out of my account. Could anyone help me?

Eva Some merchants might do that. It's not particularly strange, the card networks like Mastercard just work like that and bunq is transparent and shows you and processes almost everything immediately.

The technical reason is that the first 50 Euros are just a kind of deposit that is then returned from the merchant to you, and after that the actual payment will get booked. With most types of merchants this shouldn't happen, but with some gas stations it might be the case.

I used my cards (personal) in many countries (my home 🏡 is though The Netherlands 🇳🇱) and I barely had the behaaviour you reported.

Something I know though is that almost 100% of my card payment transactions (both Master Card and Maestro) are all routed via Apple Pay… that might do a difference… not sure.

I rarely pay with physical card.

Du beschreibst ein normales Verhalten von Tankstellen Automaten. Wenn du deine Karte und die Pin eingibst wird ein Betrag reserviert, den du maximal tanken kannst. Wenn du mit der Betankung fertig bist, wird der reservierte Betrag erstattet und der tatsächliche Betrag abgebucht. Das funktioniert bei allen Karten die ich kenne so, wobei Reservierungen bei manchen Banken nicht angezeigt werden, obwohl sie sich durchaus auf den Verfügungsrahmen auswirken. Das kann sehr ärgerlich sein wenn es zu abgelehnten Zahlungen führt die man nicht versteht. Darum finde ich die transparente Variante, die bunq nutzt, die bessere.
