I’m a new user from Luxembourg (the one and only Grand Duchy in the world)! I’m enjoying bunq, the features have me blown away, and overall it was straightforward to set up the account. I’ve noticed that there are already some threads about using bunq in Germany and other countries and, of course, the Travel Tips. But there is no general thread for using bunq if you live in Luxembourg! Until now! 😊

If you’re also a bunqer from Luxembourg, I’m eager to know more about your experiences:

Do card payments work everywhere, offline and online?
Have you had any issues with the NL IBAN or not? Is there anything one should know about bank transfers from/to other Luxembourgish banks?
How many of your friends and family are also using bunq? Does everything work well?

Ideally, I want to collect some general feedback and ideas for bunq to serve users in Luxembourg better. More experienced users probably know it best, but here are some things that I’ve already noticed:

No Apple Pay / Google Pay support in Luxembourg: that’s a big one for me. Most competitor neo-banks work fine here with Apple Pay (even the old school dinosaurs do), and I want to pay with my bunq cards just using my iPhone or Apple Watch in the future (in the meantime, I guess I have to make do with the shiny Metal Card).
No LU IBAN support: This would make Luxembourgish bunqers feel a lot more “at home” when it comes to receiving our paycheck, paying rent etc. — I hope we’re on the list for expansion soon. 🗺️

Everything works well for payments and transfers. You should not have any issue with NL IBAN because of European law on IBAN discrimination.

I also want LU IBAN and Apple Pay so bad…

As a temporary solution you can use Curve to use you bunq card with Apple Pay but it locates all transaction in Lithuania

A Luxembourgish IBAN (and Apple Pay) would make this service so much better for people here. This would probably motivate even people attached to their dinosaur bank to switch to something else and obviously better.

Thanks for the recommendation of Curve, I'll have a look. Do you use it without issues yourself?

Kevin It works with no problem but I don’t use it very much as I prefer to have the real location of my payments to have an accurate bunq map. It’s just a preference

Note that sometimes it takes the wrong store for the logo eg. Carrefour instead of Delhaize but still shows the correct name in the transaction details. This is maybe due to the data that curve passes to bunq
