I am not sure from which currency you are planning to transfer money to your bunq account, but if you have only a EUR bunq sub-account, you need to make sure transfer from abroad is done in EUR.
Optionally you can use the local currency bunq sub-accounts which have an incoming max of 90.000 GBP (expressed in GBP as the Local currencies accounts are UK based).

I use quite often transfer form the US in USD to my EUR bunq account and I use Wise which is easy to use and partnered with bunq.
