M Every IBAN has a checksum (digits 3+4, sometimes additional checksums depending on the country). It's very unlikely to mistype a digit and still have a valid IBAN. But of course, it's not impossible to make mistakes here that slip through the cracks. In this case you'd be out of luck. While technically the person who unjustly received your money would be obliged by law to return it to you, you'd first need to establish a way of contacting them, and you probably need to involve law enforcement or a lawyer to find out who they are. Could be worth if for higher sums, but probably not for small transactions.
But yes, thanks to the checksum digits this will probably never happen to you in your life.
