We’ll never ask for your personal data outside of the bunq app, but recently we’ve spotted a couple of websites pretending to be us. These websites use a phishing SMS informing you of irregularities on your bunq account.
Please, make sure to be careful with your personal data and make sure to never share it with third parties. Currently our team is taking the actions required to have the websites taken down and initiate legal actions.
How does the scam work?
The scammers set their bait by sending out a wave of fake messages seemingly from bunq announcing an alleged ‘suspicious device login’, ‘verification required’, ‘block’ - or any other combination of keywords known to worry people when it comes to their banking.
If you follow the link, additional instructions follow via different channels - on a fake website, or via phone call/audio call, or text message. In the process, at some point you may be asked to scan a QR code and enter your bunq login details.

The fraudsters will pretend they need you to do this in order to ‘secure your account’, falsely pretending to be members of the bunq team. They gain access to your account, as well as all the information and assets in it.
How to recognize the spoofing attempt?
Lately, fraudulent SMS has been coming from a Belgian mobile phone, while the fraudsters then call from a Dutch number.
Note that even without this discrepancy, you can be sure bunq will never call you and request any of the previously mentioned. Our Support team only communicates through the in-app chat or via our official email account support@bunq.com and we’d never ask for your login credentials, security links or codes.
The sole purpose of these personal details is to enable the rightful owner to access their account. Nobody else should make use of your details, except for you. Learn more about this here
