Also while they state that every bank in theory is free (as in freedom) to join the Geldmaat network, it does not say anywhere what the monetary and personal costs involved with this are. Geldmaat is not a charity for banks, everybody who joins probably has to chip in. And while I wasn't able to find any actual numbers, if you just research in general how expensive it is to maintain an ATM network of the size of Geldmaat's network, then even a fraction of that is quite substantial money. Factor in that the fact that bunq is focusing on users who 1) rarely use cash money 2) might not be physically located inside The Netherlands, it might just be a hard sell for them to join Geldmaat at this point. Just my personal speculation, so take it with a grain of salt.
