e-Residency of Estonia (also called virtual residency or E-residency) is a program launched by Estonia on 1 December 2014. The program allows non-Estonians access to Estonian services such as company formation, banking, payment processing, and taxation. The program gives the e-resident a smart card which they can use to sign documents. The program is aimed towards location-independent entrepreneurs.
The e-Residency program offers a marketplace of trusted services of potential use to businesses run using the program.
If bunq was a participant it would further benefit reducing carbon footprint.
E-Residency of Estonia is a government-issued digital identity which gives global entrepreneurs remote access to the world's most digital country. It provides the possibility to securely authenticate yourself online and sign documents using the most secure and efficient electronic signatures. Plus, the ability to start a company 100% online from anywhere.
Estonia was the first country to offer e-Residency, starting in 2014. It remains the most popular programme of its kind for ambitious entrepreneurial people.
I have to admit having a strong motivation for this proposal, as a UK citizen with a verified bunq personal account, I would love to open a bunq business account for my new Estonian company but unfortunately the current criteria will not allow this.
