Yes, just like with any investment, crypto values can go up or down. That’s why we show clear info before every trade, so you can make informed decisions. bunq doesn’t provide financial advice. All trades are securely handled by our licensed partner, Kraken.

You pay a small trading fee, always shown in the app before you buy or sell:

Yes, your crypto appears right after your order is completed.

How do I get started?

Getting started with crypto is easy, and you can begin with just €1. Simply set up your personal crypto wallet by following these steps:

Go to the ₿ Crypto tab
Tap on “Get Started”
Complete the verification flow for Kraken
Your wallet is now ready ✅

Do I need to verify anything?

Yes, a quick identity check is required when opening your crypto wallet. It helps keep your account secure and ready to use.

You won’t need to go through verification again if you already completed it when creating your account.

However, there are some cases where we may need extra information. For example, this can happen if your Identification Document has expired. If anything is missing from your record, we’ll ask you to complete the verification process again.

Are my cryptoinvestments protected?

Your cryptocurrencies are safeguarded by Safety Shield, an automatic feature that temporarily holds any money you receive from selling crypto for 24 hours before it’s released to your Bank Account. This security measure provides you with extra time to detect and report any suspicious activity, ensuring that even if someone gains access to your account, they cannot immediately withdraw your funds.

Safety Shield is enabled by default for all users, and you’ll always see a note in your payment details if it’s active during a crypto sale. You can turn off Safety Shield anytime in the Crypto tab, but there’s a 24-hour delay before it’s fully disabled for your protection.

Can I sell my crypto whenever I want?

Yes, you can sell your crypto whenever you want with bunq. However, thanks to Safety Shield, any money you receive from a crypto sale will be held securely for 24 hours before it’s released to your Bank Account.

Which Bank Accounts can I use to buy and sell cryptocurrencies?

Currently, you can only buy and sell cryptocurrencies from your euro Bank Accounts. You won’t be able to make crypto purchases from your Foreign Currency Accounts or Savings Accounts.

Is there a minimum to start investing?

Yes, you can start investing with as little as €1.

How is my crypto stored?

Your crypto is stored securely by Kraken, a licensed and regulated partner.

Can I set price alerts?

Yes, you can create custom price alerts and get notified when a coin reaches your chosen value. It’s easy to set up. Here’s how:

Go to the ₿ Crypto tab
Choose the crypto currency you want to be alerted for
Tap on the 🔔 in the top right corner
Select the price hit you want to be alerted for
Tap on Create Alert

How can I delete or edit a price alert?

You can change or remove your price alerts whenever you like. Here’s how:

Go to the ₿ Crypto tab
Tap on ⚙️ Settings
Select 🔔 Alerts
Select the alert you want to edit or delete
Adjust the sum or delete the alert

Where do I track my crypto?

You can track your crypto in the Crypto tab. There, you’ll see your entire portfolio, including real-time prices, performance over time, and all the coins you own, all in one convenient place.

How is crypto taxed?

Crypto taxes depend on the tax laws in your country of residence. In some countries, you may need to report gains, losses, or even just owning crypto as part of your annual tax filing. We recommend checking with your local tax authority or a financial advisor to understand your specific obligations.
