I pay them with a monthly repeating payment of 80 euros. From my Bunq account. But at the end of the year, it turned out I didn't use 960 euros of electricity. They wanted to refund, but their system couldn't deal with my Dutch IBAN. They lady of the customer service on the phone just couldn't enter the IBAN. I told her I only have accounts with Bunq. Then she asked me if she could send me a cheque. She was just being creative.
When I told her Bunq doesn't accept cheques, and that this is their problem, as IBAN discrimination is not allowed by law, then finally someone of the bookkeeping department logged in to their own online banking system and wired me the money by hand. So everything worked out, no complaints about the RWE.
What I meant with my previous post was: We shouldn't be laughing too loud about cheques. I am from 1980 and I never used a cheque in my life. It is ridiculous that the system still exists. But as long as the system exists, you can't blame people to use it. As I said, in France people pay for their groceries with cheques. And I now I think about it further - I met someone in the USA who gets her pay with a cheque. Money is money.
There are also people who still send faxes to each other. The devices are available and still connected, they are used to working with the device, so they use them. And the fax is technology of the 90's. Cheques are technology of centuries ago, it will take another while for them to die completely.
