My friends and family have been asking me a variety of questions ever since I started working at bunq. One that comes back the most, however, is "what does bank of the free mean?" I find this to be a delightful question, and it's one I answer frequently. So I figured: why not share it with all of you too? Here it is, in three parts, because I like to elaborate. Enjoy! 🌈
It means freedom
Yes, it's all about freedom. Not the William Wallace in Braveheart kind of freedom, mind you, but rather freedom of choice. The freedom to do whatever I want, whenever I want it, wherever I want. Without having to deal with unnecessary red tape or long waiting.

Say I want to open an account with my brothers, and use it exclusively for buying classical music records (you know, for those lovely Sunday brunches). All it takes is a few seconds, a couple of taps in my app and... Poof! Bring on the concertos. 🎹
It means users first
It is amazingly refreshing to see a company take a stand and not invest in nasty businesses. Personally I'd rather not see my money used for stuff that I don't feel comfortable with. By keeping my money at bunq, I feel like I'm making a difference for the better. 😇
Moreover, everything bunq does is designed around the best possible user experience. From instant person-to-person payments to the super convenient QR code scanner: it makes moving money as easy as texting. Not to mention the app looks and feels super sexy, thanks to our amazing Italian designers. 🎉
It's means togetherness
Here is, as far as I'm concerned, the most important aspect. We're all in this together. Whether you're the owner of a company, a student or a parent of two: we're all fighting for the same cause. Which is developing, building and sustaining a healthy financial system. A system that we can be proud to be a part of.
By using modern-day technology that has been made in way that simplifies everyone's day-to-day life, we are going beyond traditional banking. What awaits us going forward? That's up to all of us to decide. Together. Let's get it! 💪
What does the "bank of the free" mean to you? Let us know in the comments!
