Flo 🇩🇪🇬🇧 I like the idea, but I think chances are small that bunq will partner up with a party in one country.

If you by any chance know a service that does this internationally, I think chances are bigger.

In a way Travelex is one of those companies and bunq sometimes advices them, but they are quite expensive and not customer friendly.

But I don’t know any and the retailers also don’t. Barzahlen.de is very well distributed through Germany (and i think Austria as well) so it would be an instant Benefit for every bunqer in this region.
Maybe together they could also expand this service to other countries as well. Some of the retailers are internationally active as well.

Flo 🇩🇪🇬🇧 I do not believe bunq will offer it even then, Bargeld, or cash as we say in English is on it's way out in a lot of countries in western Europe, with Germany being the biggest exception/holdout, bunq has always said that they do not see a future in cash, as the home country of bunq, in The Netherlands in 2017, 58,1% of all payments where done by card, and last year this number surpassed 65%, So you can see why bunq does not believe in cash, in other countries such as Sweden card payments account for more than 75% of all payment volume. So you can see why bunq has yet to invest in these types of services.

DaveFlash I also agree on that topic and I don’t understand why germans and german retailers have such problems with (especially credit-)card payments.

It would just be nice if I had an option to deposit cash into my bunq account.
Because some times you get cash as a present or as tip and maybe you want to save it instead of pay the next weeks with cash.

Flo 🇩🇪🇬🇧 god damn it! had a whole reply written for you but my computer crashed and it's gone, suffice it to say creditcards are also not accepted in the netherlands as are debitcard. retailers do not know the difference between mastercard and mastercard or visa and visa and think when you talk about mastercard or visa you are talking about creditcards so ppl from outside netherlands will find their visa or mastercard will not be accepted even if it's not a creditcard. damn it! all the nuance is gone. only maestro and v-pay usually work here.

DaveFlash It’s the same here, but worse, because there are girocard, EC-Karte, geldkarte and other niche-products, and about half of the retailers doesn’t support all, some even only one type of card... sucks!

But that’s another topic, which can’t be solved by bunq.

If you have to take care of cash you need to stay with a german bank. In that case you'll further need your N26 account.

I can not understand what made you happy about changing from n26 to bunq. Bunq is much more expensive and does not offer a feature to put cash onto your account. I like n26 much more. I only use bunq for ideal payments and waited for black friday to get a free premium account. I will never upgrade to the paid version.

Dick I think you should read a lot more postings here in bunq together. The advantages of bunq have been discussed here many times. If you do not like it, ok...

Agree 100%. A cash deposit feature would be an awesome add-on to an already great service. Not a deal breaker for me, but I've missed it since signing up for bunq.

Agree. Cash is very often the only option to pay things in germany. You want ice cream? Cash. French fries? Cash. A new haircut? Cash. New fingernails? Cash.... And if some shop accepts card payments, that doesn't mean that you can pay with your bunq maestro... since often you can only pay with the german "girocard" . :(

A function to deposit cash would be cool. But otherwise, barzahlen is a bit expensive. But: I wouldn't mind if the user has to pay like 50 percent of the fee.

Maybe also a fair use policy, like having deposits and withdrawals up to a specific limit for free and after that a fee.

I don’t thinks it makes sense for bunq supporting barzahlen.de to deposit cash. I keep my cash, cash. It’s never hundreds of Euros but often 20-150. I don’t need that money in my account just to withdraw it again to pay something in cash when you need to in a small German shop. Cash remains cash and is stored in a box at home. Using the “ATM function” at the supermarket is nice but with 10 free ones at a regular ATM bunq offers enough. Bunq is servicing so many European countries that supporting another local service like barzahlen is too limited no matter what barzahlens future plans are. The other thing is I urge anyone to have at least two accounts (2 different banks) with money on it. Your need to be flexible if an account get freezed for whatever reason. Regulation can be painful those days. Also some customers prefer having an emergency overdraft just in case via a 2nd account at a bank providing it. But these are just additional personal thoughts 💭...

Christoph So bunq shouldn't support this because you don't need it for yourself..? Sometimes you have more cash than 20-150€ and you want to have it safe.
Or you sold something and now you want to keep it on a savings goal..
Just because you don't need it for your cash, doesn't mean others don't need it :)
.. and well, the bunq account switching service is only for the Netherlands. So a service for Germany and Austria, a big market with many cash, should be ok to support..

Well NL switching service is a one time tool that “works for marketing” in some kind of way. Bunq has its origin in NL, most customers are in NL and also iDEAL is full NL. Sofort is for topping up the iDeal alternative for many other non NL customers. But there was nothing for cash top up in NL. And yes I dont need that cash option for myself and sure there are the ones that need it. But I can only speak of myself. We just summarize opinions... 😊
