The Maestro card is one of our cool card options for your bunq account and it's perfect for all of your POS payments. It gives you the possibility to link your card to any of your bank accounts, with the possibility to link it to two bank accounts at the same time by using two separate PINs.
Where can I use the. bunq debit card?
It works best in Europe 🇪🇺:
Debit (Maestro) cards are most common for use in Europe, rather than worldwide. If you live in the Netherlands, you'll need a Maestro card for most of your store purchases!
To see if a store accepts your Maestro card, look out for the logo above to identify Maestro-friendly shops.
Traveling internationally 🌎?
Although debit cards are great in Europe, not every country accepts them. Check here to find the closest ATM near you. 🗺
Luckily you get a combination of 3 cards included in your Easy Money, Easy Green and Business plans! If you are traveling outside of the EU, bring along a bunq debit Mastercard to make sure that you can do all of your vacation spending no problem.
Good to know
You can't do payments at offline terminals
You can only use the card at terminals with a Maestro sticker
No magnetic stripe payments are available for this type of card
PAN isn't corresponding with your IBAN. This means a card reading machine might read the card's PAN and convert it into a non-existing IBAN, as the PAN normally represents your IBAN at other banks.
Our Maestro cards can't be used for online merchant payments
There is a limit of 20 characters per card name
PANs are always 16 digits long
If the linked IBAN changed before the card has been sent to production - the card will reflect the new IBAN physically on it
Our debit is not suitable for online merchants. Our debit cards don't have a unique card number, instead they've their ordered IBAN on it. Especially users from countries different from the Netherlands are used to Maestro cards with a unique card number. We use the Digi- or Credit card for this purpose, the debit card is suitable for POS payments (physical card payments). In contrast to other banks we chose not to support PIN transactions or withdrawals at a terminal which is offline, the main reasons for this are:
a) When the terminal is offline, we can't send a realtime push notification
b) When the terminal is offline, we can't check your balance, limits and allowed countries
c) If we'd allow transactions with offline terminals, you might end up with a negative balance and we don't want to cause this
d) A shortcoming for withdrawals is that the limit is reset after 2 am Dutch time.
We do support offline payments for the Mastercard, just click here
