I ran into a strange problem this weekend, so far the support team seem unable to resolve it for me. I think it might be an issue for everyone, just an edge case that not many people run into.
How I caused the issue - some money was automatically transferred from ABN -> Bunq due to the Switch Service. I clicked the payment and selected "forward", and then sent it to a friends ABN account. The money never arrived, and still didn't arrive after 5 days. Bunq support tell me the payment is processed and confirmed, so it looks like the money is sent.
TL;DR - If I send a payment from Bunq to ABN, and I include a description which looks like a Switch Service payments (e.g. /IVSB/ABNANL2A/NL02BUNQ2290000000 ) then ABN seem to ignore the payment and it never arrives in the account. I confirmed this from my Bunq account to multiple ABN accounts.
What I would suggest:
1 - Maybe other users with an ABN account can try to send a payment there using the description I included above (/IVSB/ABNANL2A/NL02BUNQ2290000000). I tested it a few times with 1 cent and it never arrives with ABN
2 - I think Bunq should reach out to ABN and explain this problem. I'm just a little guy and nobody at ABN will listen to me, hopefully between the banks they can get such big problems resolved
3 - I think Bunq should strip out this description when Switch Service payments are forwarded. As of right now if you forward a switch service payment to ABN it will automatically include the same description, which means the money will never arrive in your account. I guess the root is with ABN, but Bunq can at least safeguard users from this problem.
As of right now I am missing more than €1000 because of this problem.
