Hey bunqers!

bunq Pack is our new membership that lets you experience the power of togetherness by sharing bunq with your friends, family, partner(s) and beyond!

We would love to hear how you get the most out of the bunq Pack memberships, so please share your experiences with us below. You may give other bunqers some great ideas!

Here’s how one of our bunq team members Elise gets the most out of her Pack membership:

“I am super excited to be able to use bunq Pack with my flatmates. I originally was the only bunq user in my apartment, but with the launch of bunq Pack my flatmates are all on board to join bunq🚌. Now I will finally be able to start bunqing together and open a group account for all of us to use for rent, dinners and much more. Even better… we’re opening an account for our holiday to Italy this summer😎!”

Sad to say. But seems to discriminate on the topic of business. Basically a pack account (when you’re in a group or have a lot of friends) costs you like 5 eur per person. Yet, when I’m a loner and have a business I pay 15 euro. I guess for bunq it’s the idea of having more customers and using bunq-ers to get more new customers, but what does this do for those that chose another path?

Bank of the free except for those that...

photo
44

Great move. You are doing excellent work. I converted my existing business account into a pack and then invited my own premium account and my wife's free account into the pack. That all within 60 seconds! Now my business pays the costs, my wife has a premium account and I can invite another friend to premium, all for only €2 more. Awesome!

photo
36

That’s exactly what I’m going to do. But if you don’t have a business it’s a hard sell to find 3 persons to share a pack with.

photo
34

I’m considering your example my girlfriend has a business and a free account and I got a premium. But what I don’t get you invited your own premium account to the pack? How does this works?

photo
34

Hey Jee👋

The bunq Pack feature allows you to make a pack that consists of either four Premium memberships or three Premium memberships and one Business membership.

Just go to your Profile -> My Membership -> Get bunq pack -> Get bunq pack -> Add your three friends/user accounts to make your bunq Pack! Yasss

Cheers!

This is plain awesome, and a welcome addition to use it personally with my gf and with the business!

Is this option live already? Because I already pay for my business account and I tried doing the steps from the Knowledge topic, but when I tap on "My membership", no option to "Get a pack" (yet?).

photo
35

Did you already update your app? You can only see the new features when you updated :)

photo
38

Haha thanks! That’s it. I downloaded the update right after the announcement but there was another update waiting for me. Works now! Great :)

photo

Very, very disappointing update this. After collecting all the feedback I am very sorry to read that there is no solution for a family. I have 3 kids. Proud of my whole family but Bunq has decided 2 kids is enough. As an early adapter and active promotion I am done with Bunq now. Going to cancel all the accounts of my kids, wife and myself. Sad, sad feeling here.

photo
38

Hey Frans! We're really sorry you feel this way. bunq Packs have been indeed designed for 4 people. Have into account that, if you create a bunq pack + 1 Premium account can also be a good deal! 👍

photo
36

Hmmm I got three children too. Come on @Bunq why the limit of 4 and not 5?

photo
37

The average family is (I guess) 2 parents and 2 kids. Bunq has to draw a line somewhere, if they would have allowed 5 members then I’m sure there would be someone who has a family of six.

For me the pack (family of 2) is not worth the price, unless I find two friends who want to join. But then i’ll Have to make sure those two pay their share. Too much of a hassle for a few 💶 😂

photo
40

Why not give the kids a free bunq account with joint bank accounts from your premium account? They wont need more then one or two accounts.

photo
36

Hi there bunqers! 🙋

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us!

As always we take all your constructive input with us!!

Cheers!

photo
36

Hi Frans and others,

If you want an bunq Premium account for the bunq Pack price we could maybe share a subscription.

Please take a look at my other topic: https://together.bunq.com/topic/sharing-the-bunq-pack_1

photo
35

Because a shared account is not the account of the kid. Kids want and need their own space, bank card and their own responsibility. Not a card in their dad’s name they borrow.

photo
36

bunq is not made for kids. Other banks provide free accounts (with card and gift) for kids.

photo
photo
35

Nice addition, do please add the invoice on the business side instead of the personal account. That should never have an invoice ;)

photo
40

Family means family. 1,2,3,4,5 whatever number of kids.

photo
37

Lol it's not called 'bunq Family'

photo
37

Whatever. You know what I mean

photo
photo
36

Love it, now I can convince my brother and his girlfriend to finally start bunqing, and me and the wife can also get premium for a reasonable price 😬

photo
43

I find it kind of dissapointing too. Like the first reply stated. It looks like some sort of discrimination. When you have a business account and a family, Its an easy choice.

From januari 1st i will say "goodbye bunq"

I guess i can tell my kids they can pick up their passie.

photo
39

I don't quite understand the negative sounds I'm reading here. Let's get things straight, bunq offers 4 fully equipped premium accounts you can freelyyyy share (not only family members) for just a fraction of the cost of 4 separate accounts. I think this is a very fair and also clever (and very easy to use) feature.

Unfortunately I haven't found a reason to put this in use for me personally, but gonna think of something :)

So, to wrap it up: very nice job bunq! 👍

photo
34

"for just a fraction of the cost of 4 separate accounts"

When 4 separate accounts (at 7.99€ each) are 31.96€, the bunq pack at 19.99€ is (literally) still way more than "just a fraction".

It's not even a half or less...

photo
39

? I have a wife and 3 kids. Which would be 28 Euro per month? That is a lot.

photo
photo
35

For everyone who can't find 3 other bunqers to share the new bunq Pack with, please take a look at my topic: https://together.bunq.com/topic/sharing-the-bunq-pack_1

If we unite we could all profide of the great new price!

photo
41

How can one be positive for something that is way overpriced? 20 euro for a family pack is something you just can't put in perspective.

I am happy for you that you see almost everything really positive on the bunq side. But i can't. I can see a lot of good things, but this decission is not one of them.

photo
40

How is it such a bad deal? 4 full Premium accounts for €5 a piece. Considering what bunq offers per Premium account, I think that's very generous. Keep in mind that bunq is the only bank where your money stays -your- money. So this is about the only way they can make any!

photo
37

@Patrick V:

Maybe the question wasn't, isn't or shouldn't be so much what they offer "per Premium account". But rather, what they offer in relation to what real people (or families) need. Which I doubt would be 4x25=100 current accounts and 4x3=12 bank cards at a 20€/month.

photo
31

@NiB: You're probably right that not everyone needs all features. However I believe bunq cares a lot about simplicity and uniformity. Making a difference in what you get while in a Pack vs Premium subscription would be confusing. And as you know Pack is not specifically for families, but for all people.

Look at it like an unlimited buffet: You don't *have* to eat it all. With this being the only way bunq makes money, it probably just can't get much cheaper than this. Regardless of the amount of accounts/cards included.

photo
photo
34

Ok, family pack is a wrong name, but still.

photo
35

Seems very interesting. Question: if I get a pack and a friend joins the pack, can I remove that person later, and invite someone else?

photo
38

Found it in the price list. The person leaving will get billed a normal Premium account fee.

photo
photo
40

At T-mobile they have something called 'Samen'. When you join a 'Samen' group with more then 3 persons, you all get 5 EUR discount on your telephone bill. Instead of the Bunq Pack I would better have individual discount. Like 2 people in a group: each 1 EUR discount, 3 people in a group: 2 EUR discount and 4 or more people in a group then 3 EUR discount each.

photo
45

Great update, once again. Great job Ali and team.

For those people that didn't find yet what they asked for: Just wait and see what they eventually come up with for you. You can be negative, say that you want to cancel etc. But give them some time. bunq is totally new in this landscape and the pace they are developing is daunting for the traditional banks. In the pre-bunq era you could only wish for having a bank like this. Also it's a bit rude to complain like this, these people all working their ass off to deliver this. Take a breath, think again and give them some time. There are plenty of more reasons why you should bank with bunq: https://medium.com/@piels/a-different-sound-227140d68ab8

I have some questions myself:

1. If you switch to a bunq pack, all the existing bank accounts stay 100% in tact?

2. To be clear: The bunq pack owner cannot see any activity of a member?

3. If I switch my business account to a bunq pack, then invite my existing premium account and add 1 free account, do I still need to continue paying for the existing premium account?

photo
36

Hi Niels🙋

Thank you for the lovely compliments! Glad you liked the Update😊

To answer your questions:

1. Yes, all your existing bank accounts stay intact. In the case of a free account that joins a bunq pack, this would stay intact as well, only difference would be that the Free user becomes a Premium user, thus having access to an additional 24 accounts.

2. Indeed, every account of the four is private.

3. No, you no longer have to pay for your Premium. From the moment you create the bunq Pack you start paying the bunq Pack monthly fee (19,99€). It does not matter if you have managed to assign the other three accounts to friends, family or yourself. The bunq Pack fee comes in place the moment you activate the membership👍

Cheers!

I'm excited about the bunq Pack. For some friends, 8 euros was too much, but 5 they say is okay :-)

For people that want to join a Pack, but don't have a group of four yet, this group can be helpful to fill up a Pack or join one: https://goo.gl/forms/YkbWX4...

Hi, great update!

One question. Is it possible to auto divide and pay the subcription based on the amount of accounts joined?

photo
35

Hey Yari🙋

This is not possible. However, I am sure many bunqers would agree that this is great wishlist material👍

Can you post this again as a question on Together so we can turn it into a wish?

Thanks Yari!

Hi,

First thank you for releasing the bunq Pack, great work!. I am very happy with that. I do have a question. if i invite a user for my bunq pack who has a premium subscription already. What wil happen to that subscription?

photo
37

Hi Mark 😄

Glad to hear you excited about bunq Pack!

A user with a current Premium membership will join your pack, and will no longer be charged for the Premium membership.

Rather now they will be part of your 20 euro a month pack membership!

Hi Elise,

Thank you for your answer, very clear!

All though very happy with Bunq, this Pack thing worries me a lot.

Besides the fact that not all people has a business to attend to, they also don’t have an equal amount of children also the wife or man can be missing.

For me this is all over the top, I only need 3 premium’s, for my wife is not yet leaving me and my child is not wandering the streets.

Rather had a Pack where you could choose your own amount of subscriptions 2/3/4/5 and so on. Price €5 each.

Of course I will not join a Pack of 4 when I need only 3, so for the time being I will stay with my premium.

The rest is awesome and that I like definitely so go on the good work and please rethink the Pack thing.

photo
43

3 premium would be 24, so the pack will be cheaper then! 4th one you can give away or keep, what you want.

photo
photo
35

Is it possible to add 2 business accounts and 2 free accounts to the bunq pack?

photo
32

Hey there!

bunq packs can either consist of 4 personal accounts or 1 business account and 3 personal accounts 👍

photo
photo
39

Again, just as with the introduction of premium subscription, the implementing is this option is out of bounds again.

4 subscriptions in 1 pack. Who needs this???

Of course people with businesses and large families.

Why is there not a 2-pack, 4-pack and 8-pack?

This way people have a choice.

Just my opinion ...

photo
43

I agree. I would also be nice too implement a pack for every account on the same address for 5 euro. So 1 account is 8 euro, but as soon as 2 or more accounts are registrered on the same address all accounts pay 5 euro.

photo
34

This will be a super sollution for businesses. This way you can equip your team (4-40) with the proper needed accounts (but managed in de business account). Only thing is 5euro per employee is goint to be expensive this way... so a 1-10 and 11-20 and so on price will be more appropiate

Interesting price point and composition of the membership package. I recognize it's very difficult to find a good price point, because you want to keep the price model simple, but there are so many different customer segments and you don't want to make it too cheap and eat too much into your existing/potential revenues per user.

Some observations:

- for business owners in a long-term relationship and/or a kid this is a VERY good deal. For a relatively low price they can now get their personal bank accounts covered, plus have a business account.

- For couples, it's still cheaper to have two separate accounts. Unfortunately, you're not making it easy to upsell couples where one partner is an enthusiastic bunq user and the other is not (yet) convinced. That's a missed opportunity since your growth now still has to come from word of mouth of premium customers. The best bunq experience happens when two people who transact regularly have a bunq account so couples potentially are your best promotors (who, as opposed to students, have money to spend).

- for students, this brings paying for bunq in their reach again. They will act as promotors, so this is a good thing.

- for families with kids, the deal is okay at best. For families with one kid it's still relatively expensive (given that kids accounts at incumbent banks cost nothing), with two kids it's okay and for three or more it becomes expensive and annoying (two memberships..). It seems bunq is targeting customers to join when they become students and not as part of a family.

- for friend groups the deal is pretty okay, but to me it feels like the hassle really only pays off when I can find 4 people. Bunq still has not cracked the nut of converting customers from incumbent banks to bunq customers, given the price difference per paying user. A bunq pack with 6 or 8 accounts and an average cost of 4 or 3 EUR could have made it easier for people to try out bunq.

Bunq is occupying an interesting niche with the focus on (small) business owners and in this niche I believe no other bank offers a better deal. It seems to want customers to join when they start earning and spending significant sums of money on a monthly basis (student life), leave the kids/adolescant accounts to the incumbent banks, banking on the fact that the multiple accounts/budgeting and cost sharing features will drive them to bunq when they start going to university.

To me that really only leaves one weakness to urgently address in the pricing/growth strategy: if not through a relatively low price, how is bunq going to try to seduce new users to try out bunq premium? The free account is quite useful to check out the app, but the bunq product only really shines when you use it for your day to day spending (using the maestro/master card) and for budgeting via multiple accounts. And for that most people currently use the incumbent banks.

I bought the bunq Pack and I think 19,99 EUR is too expensive.

photo
30

The pack option is awesome and I am using it from day one with my kids and they have accounts now for their pocket money, clothing money and other goals where they save money for emoji_u1f44d

The thing with pack is that it is only fitting scenario's with 4 in total. I want to use Bunq too with my girlfriend and ex, then everyone of course want rainbow cards with their own name and then I need five. It is ideal to share accounts in these kind of situations and I am sure I am not the only one.

What about creating a #5pack for EUR25, #6pack would be EUR30 (also a goal at the gym emoji_u1f602)

This way it would also fit families with 3 kids and I am sure it will help bunq grow emoji_u1f601
