Dual PIN

Hey bunqers!

We've recently launched Dual PIN technology, which lets you link one card to two accounts at the same time.

What are the creative ways you’re using Dual PIN to make your lives easier? Share your experience with us in the comments below.

Here’s how Koen uses Dual PIN to make spending a breeze:

“I pay from my “House expenses” account using my primary PIN 1122. Then using the same card to pay for a night out from my “Parties” account by using PIN code 4455. This was I carry less cards around but still have a great way to stick to my budgets and spend for whatever, wherever!”

I use this mainly to differentiate payments between our main "groceries" account and my own personal "play money". Works great. When you tell people about it they always find it mind blowing.

Dual pin is by far one of the best features you have implemented! I use it a lot. My default pin points to our shared account. My additional pin to my private account.

Every bank should have this, you really only need one card. But boy, have we patented it!

It works great if you stop using contactless payment.. as contactless also means no pin required in bunq.. no function available for contactless with a pincode for every transaction...

so it’s a pitty that I needed to give up contactless in order to use the dual pin.

Kind of a work a round exists, change the contactless limit to €1?

Nah. I pay contactless whenever I need the default grocery account, which I use daily. I use the chip on the rare occasion I want to pay from my personal account, maybe once per week.

Within the limits of what is technical possible I love the feature. Especially because I suggested it a long time ago. Hm I should have claimed the patent myself 🙄

I personally set my primary account as default, so I can use contactless with it. The secondary account has a different pin and I’ll just stick my card in for that one. I see the difficulty if you use them equally tho...

why limit to 2? I would make a PIN code for all 5+ my accounts

Why not go all the way to 25? Because that is the limit of Bunq Premium..

I think this is a lot, lol, you cant remember them all.. But sure, 5 is a very, very good idea!

This would be very dangerous. The entropy of a pin-code is very limited (>10.000, because some codes like 0000 are not allowed, but let's say 10.000 for now). Adding 2 codes to one card already halves the entropy (chance of guessing correctly is now not 3 in 10.000 but 3 in 5.000). Every code you add will further degrade the security of your card. With 25 codes the chance of guessing the code of a random card, would be better than 3 in 400.

I know david, but when I lose my card Ill block it immediately using the app. They could also use nfc pay, which has a chance of 100/100 on small payments.

I was lucky to find out about this feature by chance and I’m such a fan. With the same card, I can now spend from my account by default and a shared account for household expenses. Such a great feature. I’d love to be able to set one or two more accounts with PIN codes.

Great job!

Dual PIN is really nice. I used it yesterday to pay for my groceries. Forgot to take my phone with me for the account switching magic, but didn’t even need it! Just used the secondary PIN to pay directly from the right budget account. I love it.

Geen Dual-pin optie in mijn bunq app :( iOS versie 6.0.0 (378). Wat doe ik verkeerd? Of heb je hier premium voor nodig?

Is inderdaad voor premium users 😊

Finally!

The feature I requested, but got discarded as it "wouldn't be safe" and yet everybody loves it!

It's a really a cool feature for people like me... lazy people :) My wife has made an account so we can put aside money for our nephew and nieces. She shared this account with me. And we both assigned this account as our secondary pin account. That all within 3 min.

And last week we did some early holiday shopping and without having to assign my card to that account first (yes, told you I'm lazy), we just payed with the secondary pin.

In the early days with ING I had to transfer money from one of my savings account firs of had to correct it afterwards. The horror :)

I love this feature! This saves me the hassle of transferring money between accounts afterwards, because i forgot to change the linked account in time before it was my turn at the cashier or because there is very poor wifi in our local supermarket. All I have to do now is use a different pin code when buying groceries. Clever and very useful :-)
