• Location-based account connection switching

This might be a very special use case (and I hope this has not already been brought up and Together search has failed me), but I thought about what if bunq would switch the account that is linked to a card based on where you are?
The idea behind this is, that everytime I am ,for example, at a certain grocery store, I want to pay with a certain account. Currently I have to do that manually.
I imagine that if I first switch an account manually, bunq would ask me to do this for me, everytime I'm here.
And if it does an auto-switch, it would just display a notification informing me.
Opinions?

    Roeshimi changed the title to Location-based account connection switching.

      @Roeshimi#81419 Well... first of all I would wonder how this would effect battery life.

      When your phone has to check your location all the time to see what account should be used, it will have to run GPS all the time. That would drain your battery.

      Second concern would be privacy. Although I trust bunq, it would be a concern for many. As this would be optional, it it not a large concern, but still.

      Third, I don't think there is a way for bunq to get the location of a payment yet. They don't add the location details to a card payment. A card payment should trigger the app to get your location, but I don't know if that is possible to do.

      Last but not least... this would work when you always go to the same store for your groceries. In rural areas this can be logical, but not in cities, where you have plenty of choice between different stores which can be close together. So you should differentiate by the stores name. That would mean a database with all stores has to be included in the bunq app.

      It is a great thought, but I see many practical issues, which will make it very hard to implement this.

      A more easy way to get the (more or less) same result is to be able to add a payment to a certain account afterwards. Th original account would still be in the payment (for referral purposes), but you can link the payment to another account and the amount is transferred from that account to the original account.

        @Roeshimi#81419 Awesome idea!
        And geofencing doesn’t (or minimal) affect the battery 👏

          @Roeshimi#81419 I don't think this can work for card payments, but it should be possible for payments with your phone.

          I'm pretty sure this idea was already on Together but I can't find it now.

          A more or less same idea is that you can connect a store to an account. A bit like how the MasterCard rerouting used to work but then for physical stores.

          Perhaps some day when a IFTTT system is available we could make these rules ourselves. If transaction name contains "Aldi" then use Groceries account and things like that.

            Je n'en vois pas l'utilité. Mais tant que cela reste désactivé par défaut bunq peut y penser.

              Wouldn‘t it be much smarter to define an account for a specific spending category? But this means there needs to be some kind of categorization.

                @JeroenE#81428 To be honest, I forgot to explicitly mention phone-payment. It was kind of natural to me that when I say "pay with bunq" I mean "pay with Apple Pay" :)
                So you're right this would be hard for card payments, but I think it would work for payment by phone using geofencing as Paul already mentioned.

                  @Phil#81480 Sure if that works or would work on the fly when paying then yes.
                  bunq could really use some automatic categorization anyways, so your suggestion would be a smart addition to that.

                    @Samzoiets#81422 As Paul already said, geofences are not that taxing on battery life.
                    Concerning location: bunq already displays a location at least when I accept a payment request for example, so in general the are able to know where you are.

                      @Phil#81480 I already have those, but you have to remember to switch the account connected to your card all the time. It would be easier if I just could set these 'rules' in the app rather then having to remember it myself.

                        @StichtingOpelSuperSixTreasurer#81586 This seems to be it, thank you. Should we then ask a moderator to merge both threads into one?

                          @Roeshimi#81499 Well, at least apple claims that they don’t locate you (or I heard they do, but within a big radius for statistics) when paying, and since Apple Pay goes via Apple servers, I doubt this would be possible..
                          If bunq supported Apple‘s „shortcuts“ (formerly known as Workflow), you could make the rule yourself.. but that brings us back to IFTTT

                            @Tobi-H#81860 Apple would not have to locate me. The bunq app would only need to learn via geofencing that I entered an area, where I defined a certain card/account combination and should execute this, if not already set up like this.

                              @Roeshimi#81723 as the other topic has only a single vote (and this one has 9 meanwhile) and the other topic got auto-locked due to inactivity I suggest to keep using the current one. 🙂👍

                              Awesome idea by the way! 🙂 Would really like this, given that it works accurately. 😁

                                @Sander#81916 Thank you Sander 😊
