• How can I cancel the Dutch switch service?

I still have to pay that monthly fee on my ABN account for 13 months and there I only had 3 payments linked to that account all of which have been switched to Bunq. Really don’t want to keep paying ABN Amro and they said they only Bunq can cancel the switch service.

It is against the switch service rules for the old bank to keep charging you. ABN knows this, yet unfortunately regularly states something else to their customers ...

      @MRM#85972 Hi M!

Be careful, whatever you do... DONT cancel the switch service, because if you do... bunq could charge you for €140 (that are the cost bunq have to pay for enabling your switch service.

The problem here is that ABNAMRO gave you the wrong advice! One of the features of the Switch Service is that you can close your old bank account as soon as the Switch Service is accepted by both parties. So you really don't have to wait 13 months in order to cancel your ABN account! This way a customer doesn't have to pay double costs!

So, you have to go back to ABN! Don't let them tell you otherwise.

      Hope this clears things up!

Thanks! I’ve already been back to them twice! I’ll try and find something online to go in with proof!

            Hi @MRM#85972 👋🏼

We reached out to ABN and they confirmed that you should be able to close the ABN account now.

Hopefully other users won't run into this issue again. Would you keep us posted on this case? :)

            Cheers

I turned on the Switch Service from ABN to bunq and after a few weeks I got the notification the service was active.

That was however, a week after I canceled my accounts at ABN, which I did in the meantime to avoid further costs. So you can cancel your accounts at your old bank right after the confirmation of your request for the Switch Service.

I don't know whether banks are not allowed to charge fees for your old accounts while they're still active. I guess it are regular accounts, which carry fees.

In order to cancel my Triodos account, I need the "saldo" to be positive and it's currently not. But because of the activated switch account, all the money I transfer there ends up being forwarded to my new Bunq account ... Chicken & the egg story. Does someone have experience in this situation?

@thegreenlabels-com-Aquamarine-Puma#141125 To make the money stay in your triodos account you need to transfer from the same bunq IBAN you used to activate the switch service 👍🏼

                    a month later

I am quite disappointed with the unclear way banks handle this... I requested a Switch Service in January towards an ABN AMRO account, the service was activated on the 1st of February. Today I got an email from ABN stating they canceled a debit on this account due insufficient funds, this payment should have been forward towards the bunq account where I had sufficient funds.

Contacted ABN and their answer is: contact yourself the debtor part to handle this!

Too add on top of this ABN continues to charge me maintenance fees on this old account, I cannot close it now because the Switch Service is activated.

Can I have help in this situation?
                    Kind regards.

                      Hi 👋 @Joao-Pink-Bear#145444

You can close the old bank account in case you have a switch service active. ABN Amro is known for not being supportive in this situation but they can change the bank account in the background into an administrative account and close your bank account. Don't take their advise to cancel the switch service as it would cost you around €140.

If you want to transfer money to the old account in the switch service make sure to send it from the new account. This way it won't be forwarded.

                      IMPORTANT:
Whenever you send money from bunq to the old ABN account please make sure to not use the old description or the 'stuur door' feature which includes their 'switch service reference numbers'.. Due to a long time bug in ABN's system your money will end up lost in their ancient systems..🙈
