@Magnificent-Peter#91694 Seeing as there is nothing on the market that does that worldwide, I highly doubt that this is possible. Maybe technically yes, but I would imagine it wouldn‘t be up to the safety regulations of card payment processing.

But, just a guess.

    @Zr40#91701 Is there a difference between "bank" and "payment processor". I mean technically bunq could handle those payments, right?

      @Jakob#91702 Just because it doesn't exist, doesn't mean that it isn't possible 😉 otherwise bunq wouldn't exist either!

        @Magnificent-Peter#91707 Sounds about right. I'm not sure if there's a difference between bank and payment processor.

        Although maybe using a mobile phone as a terminal could be very prone to hacking attacks. Because terminals are dedicated quite simple hardware devices with one job, and a mobile phone can do a lot of things, so the possibility to find and exploit bugs there is a lot higher.

          The security aspect is of course very important but so is developing a banking app.

          However imagine the implications if this would work. Card readers would become obsolete and every shop could easily offer card payments to its customers since everybody has a smartphone nowadays!

          From what I've read so far, the most difficult part would be to have encrypted communication between the phone and the chip on the card. But aside from this, the process seems to be mostly inter-bank communication which bunq is handling already anyway.

          Maybe somebody from bunq with more expertise could comment on this?

            @Magnificent-Peter#91818 Another thing that comes to mind: if the phone is the terminal, you have to tap you PIN on the phone of a stranger. Scammers can very easily create a fake terminal app, whereas creating a fake hardware terminal is more difficult.

              @Magnificent-Peter#91694 What is with Apple Pay?

                @Petervdv#91827 True. Maybe only support tap and pay then?

                  @Goldgamer#91829 What about it?

                    Er zijn inmiddels al veel gevallen bekend waarin de 'normale' bankterminals zijn gehackt, vooral in de US. Dat komt waarschijnlijk omdat de meesten nog niet werken met de chip + PIN. Ik zie een andere ontwikkeling ook in opkomst: QR code betalingen zoals via Payconic. In Scandinavië al jaren een hit. Dan heeft de winkel geen betaaltermibal meer nodig. De QR komt op het scherm of op de bon, en met je telefoon scan je die, waarna met pincode of vingerafdruk in de app wordt betaald. De verkoper ziet direct of de betaling is gelukt. Ik ben benieuwd wanneer dat in NL groots wordt ondersteund (een paar grote winkelketens zijn het al aan het implementeren hoorde ik)

                      From Stripe theres an App that lets you do exactly that - Its called "Charge for Stripe"

                        @Jorgen-Red-Owl#92244 Dat Payconic werkt echt voor geen meter, zie het niet echt als nuttige aanvulling. Nogal traag en omslachtig, dan is afrekenen met NFC toch een heel stuk fijner, sneller en makkelijker :)
