Hidde I think a certain code on the card is different and affects oddly configured or outdated payment terminals. Where they normally read ‘debitcard’ and see that as incompatible, with the new card they see ‘creditcard’ and there is no problem.
However, I’m not a bunq tech so I could be wrong.
