EDIT:
This whole post can go down the drain because a support employee misinformed me. Luckily that never happened before with bunq support...
# What is the difference with a debit MasterCard?
This question has been asked many times in this thread. The answer is: The Travel Card works as a prepaid card. This means you put money on it and pay with the amount available on the card. There is no connection to an IBAN, like with the debit MasterCard. So in a sense, it is a real credit card, but you are the one providing the credit, instead of going into debt with a credit provider.
## Things to consider
- If you like the way you connect an IBAN to your debit card, keep that card.
- If you're using a debit MasterCard for contactless payments, keep that card.
- When you put money on your credit card it is no longer in an account, so no interest is generated from it.
- There seems to be no concept of sharing, like with IBANs where people can connect to and deposit money on.
## Things I don't know yet
- How much credit can you put on your Travel Card?
- Can you use it on a plane or other offline terminals, like the German international trains?
# Note to bunq
It would be great if the above information is available in the official posts so people know it's not just a debit card with a credit text on it, but a prepaid card. Also, this post talks about having enough money on your account, while the correct terminolgy should be on your card. Just make very clear that it works like a prepaid card.
Support chat where I got my info from:
When asked if this means it works like a prepaid card the answer was: "Exactly". Apparently, that was all nonsense.
