  • Bring the bunq iPad app to macOS, using Catalyst

Apple just announced that it's technology, to turn iPad apps into native macOS apps, is coming to macOS Catalina. This is a superb opportunity to bring bunq to the desktop. ๐Ÿ’ป

With project Catalyst, the bunq app could be ported to the mac with little changes to the existing code base. While ensuring the same safety measurements that make the bunq app for iPhone and iPad as secure as it is. ๐Ÿ”’
A bunq desktop app based on the same codebase, with the same security. Securely distributed via the macOS App Store.

Yes, bunq has a mobile-only philosophy but a desktop tool could be beneficial to business and power users. So let's change it into a mobile-first philosophy! ๐ŸŒˆ

you beat me to it, but yeah. this is something bunq must do, especially to attract more businesses! please high five this topic ppl!

@johannes#96122 yeah i know, but that's a discussion for another time, another place, fact is more than half of bunq's costumer base is using apple. so there's that. I would guess it's closer to 60%-65% actually. but meh. this is not the place for that discussion...

@DaveFlash#96128 "fact is more than half of bunq's costumer base is using apple" - and so they all use MacOS as well? And it's not really a discussion, I just would love to see a desktop app in general, not just for Macs and if bunq would really work on this, I'd also love to see them working on a desktop app for other platforms.

@WJanson#96116 I was hugely impress with presentation.

Catalyst looked interesting! Would definitely love to get "the bunq ๐ŸŒˆ tablet experience" on my Macbook (since I don't own a tablet ๐Ÿ˜‰)..

@DaveFlash#96128 I don't know where you got the numbers from....

But I bet... that far more bunq ๐ŸŒˆ users have a Windows pc then a Mac(book).

Anyway, bunq ๐ŸŒˆ is all about diversity... so let's that also show in the number of devices they support ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ‘Œ

@Andreas#96144 Hold on, let me write that down "On June 3rd bunq ๐ŸŒˆ already announced a feature for bunq ๐ŸŒˆ update 12"... yes got it!

For every platform, there's already "bunqDesktop" available; a brilliant project by Gregory Goijaerts ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป
It's available on Github and is updated frequently with new features.

@Wimbat#99217 It is brilliant indeed. Itโ€™s unfortunately also third-party, so not really an option to use in combination with full API access. :( Bunq porting the app would be very nice. (Bunq taking over bunqDesktop would be even better... itโ€™s awesome even with oAuth.)

@Michael-ERL#99245 When Catalina and catalyst will be officially launched, the iPad app will probably be favorable for the reasons you just mentioned.
However, that doesnโ€™t really help Windows users and Linux users I guess. These users will still have the option to use bunqDesktop. Thatโ€™s the main reason I mentioned it.
