@smyles#96732 Understand for that purpose, but it just doesn’t make any sense to pay a deposit with your own money... this is still needed with the travel card...

@Yuri-Turquoise-Dolphin#96733 Revolut doesn’t offer that?
@Yuri-Turquoise-Dolphin#96722 Who said something about a 500€ monthly limit? As a premium user, you can top up using a CC for free for this amout, beyond that, you have to pay a fee. I find this to be very fair.
Top Ups like SOFORT or with Credit Card are only meant to be as a kind of emerency top up, because the preferred method to get money into your bunq account is via regular SEPA transfer
@Roeshimi#96736 Again, doesn’t make any sense for deposits. Often they are more than €500. Do you want to pay that with your own money LOL? Better to used a real credit card for a top up and then you don’t feel it at all
@smyles#96735 Yep Revolut has got no limit at all. So will keep using that
@Yuri-Turquoise-Dolphin#96739 I was referring to paying a deposit with your own money rather than on credit.
@Roeshimi#96736 You’re right, I misread the launch post - I assumed that the limit was €500 per month and always charged the fee!! This is even better 👍
@smyles#96741 You can do both
@Yuri-Turquoise-Dolphin#96737 Again, the idea is to get the money into your account using a regular SEPA transfer and not use a top up with a credit card.
And Revolut does not even have a real credit card but a prepaid debit, so I don't really know what you are trying to prove here.
Anyway, you already are convinced that Revolut is better so use that.
@Roeshimi#96748 Yep, will use that. The bunq card is also not a “real” credit card still, as deposits are still taken off your account directly. Not sure what you mean by credit then? Nothing is paid on credit in this case. Revolut is accepted everywhere until now and you can also customize the security features much better (blocking magnetic stripe to prevent skimming for example!!). And when you can automatically top up the Revolut card with a credit card you can easily use that for hotel deposits as well without hampering your own spending power/bank account cash
Does someone know what mcc bunq is transmitting to the card? Normal online purchase like Revolut or atm/money? Because some cards charge for this type of purchase.
@Tobias#96948 this one I believe: "6012 - FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS - MERCHANDISE & SERVICES" also. next to topping up with card, it would be nice for bunq to also support google and apple pay for this, if you want that, we have a a topic for it, so upvote to get it on bunq agenda and wish list: https://together.bunq.com/d/9198-top-up-using-apple-pay-google-pay
@Yuri-Turquoise-Dolphin#96754 Revolut is in de praktijk maar beperkt bruikbaar. Tanken bij een onbemande pomp wil bijvoorbeeld niet.
Okay, I have both Revolut and Bunq. The main drawbacks with Revolut are that it is a prepaid debit card which isn’t accepted by a lot of rental car companies. The second problem I have found with Revolut is with online purchases. As it doesn’t have 3D secure it is often declined by websites. It is not a proper bank like Bunq and doesn’t come with the same safeguards and deposit guarantees. It’s main advantage is foreign money exchange and I use it mainly for this purpose. Bunq is vastly superior IMHO and I use it as my main bank account.
There are also reported problems with using Revolut in some European countries (As the card is a UK recognised card) with some merchant terminals automatically applying dynamic exchange rate charges. This is particularly problematic in some counties like Spain.
@Mark-Blue-Shark-3137357496#97047 What about card security? Bunq disabled the customized setting a feature, which means that you either turn everything on (ie magnetic strip, chip, ATM etc) or not. With Revolut you can customize and is a lot safer for skimming abuse etc.
@Yuri-Turquoise-Dolphin#97059 Well I think the geographic restrictions and daily limits are sufficient for most people. Plus you can freeze cards while you aren’t using them. For online purchases which are by far the most high risk I use the online Bunq cards and then re-freeze them after the purchase.
@Mark-Blue-Shark-3137357496#97060 Of course you can freeze them, but I recently went to South Africa and used my Revolut card a lot. While traveling there they were trying to conduct transactions with my (apparently) skimmed Revolut card. Good luck with freezing a card while you’re traveling and actually need to use it... it was really perfect that I had turned off the magnetic stripe option, otherwise my bank account would’ve been emptied ........ the feature used to be available @ bunq but assuming everybody is stupid, they turned the function off. That’s a real pity.
@Yuri-Turquoise-Dolphin#97059 You can also change the three digit CVC number of any card after every purchase which is brilliant security feature and largely eliminates skimming risks.
@Mark-Blue-Shark-3137357496#97062 Cool, thought that CVC would only be security for online payments?
