  • Top-up bunq using a Credit/Debit Card

I would like to topup my Bunq using a Mastercard. Now I can onely topup using sofort or Ideal. It sould be easily integrated to do a Mastercard payment to topup the Bunq account(;

I'm sure there is tons of (foreign) people who would love to topup using a Mastercard.

THIS WOULD BE GREAT!

    Hey there,

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm curious, would this help a lot of people out?

You can of course also always get money to your bunq account by transferring to your bunq IBAN from your other bank! đź‘Ť

Don’t think you are allowed to pass MasterCard charges on to a customer? Who would pay the costs of the payment?

By charging transaction fees (fix amount) for example? The EU directive you may refer to relates to merchants /dealers. And there are a number of exceptions anyway (eg. for Paypal payments).

I think most people with a bank account abroad would benefit a lot the transfer would be instantly am I right?

I would like that, too. Not only Mastercards but Visa too. As far as fees are concerned - since psd2 it shouldn't be legal to charge fees for it, is it? i wouldn't mind 1%-2% for it though

              a month later

It would be super handy to be able to top up the account from MasterCard and Visa. If there are charges, I would fine to be charged by it.

Same here, visa and MC top up requested

Definitely useful when you need to get cash on to your account quicker than IBAN transfers will manage (e.g. Saturday night and the need to make an ideal payment) - it would need to be processed as a cash advance, but yes, I'd be willing to pay for the service.

I don’t know if it is allowed to pass the fees for MasterCard top ups to customers but I would be willing to pay an extra fee per top up or monthly in order to be able to top up with my MasterCard. Since I don’t trust sofort and iDeal is for Dutch banks only and instant payments in Germany are not even offered until next year MasterCard would be the perfect solution unless bunq would offer top up via paydirekt. Standard wire transfers are too slow.

                      Tim unlocked the discussion.
Tim changed the title to Topup bunq using a Credit Card.

Revolut offers a top up via a credit card free of any charge! The practical aspects of this are beyond doubt. Zero waiting time to top up your account, contrary to a bank transfer method

I would really love to topup with my Mastercard!!

This would have been super helpful to me for transferring money when I was trying out another service alongside bunq and realized bunq was the right thing for me. The other service didn't allow me to transfer money via IBAN but had a credit card number

Isn’t this problematic due to potential chargebacks whereas bank transfers and things like iDeal are definitive with no way to reverse them?

This is a very good feature and yes, Koen, that would help a lot of people out. As already said, this is actually one of the strongest features of your competitor Revolut. By allowing the use of credit cards (CC) without fees, lots of client choose for Revolut to have immediate top up AND to collect miles on their CC.

This way, all expenses can be converted into a CC transaction. It is also the same service offered by Curve Card, as well. If Bunq implements is, you're tackling TWO Fintech competition at the same time!

@LH-Black-Wolf#53178 Not at all, as explained in my post that 2 other Fintech base their business model on this feature without issues. :)

@Bruno-Maroon-Tiger#53182 That they do so doesn’t mean there isn’t any risk. ;) Maybe they’re ok with the risk and willing to persue debts for people whose transaction was charged back (putting account in negative balance). I can imagine other banks, perhaps including Bunq, are less inclined to take that risk or not interested in allowing a debt or persuing people who had a chargeback and don’t top up their account to a neutral or positive balance again.

Topup via credit card is by far my favoirite feature at Revolut. Would love to see a similar feature implemented.
