• Choice beteren VISA and MasterCard

Hi Bunq team, have you considered allowing your clients to choose between VISA and MasterCard?

Most (Dutch) banks don't offer a visa, at least not at entry level, and it would differentiate you from 'them'.

I would immediately sign up for it ;-)

Cheers

What is the exact difference between them both? I always had the option to choice one of them.

I don't think bunq will implement this, they will also need to be a partner with VISA.

Usually both will work fine, but I had several experiences in Asia where they did not accept MasterCard.

That's why I would prefer also having a visa.

This is a good idea actually, Visa is also more popular in the States and Canada so it’ll be definitely be useful for when travelling there.

I think VISA is a little bit more accepted than MasterCard. I would switch.

With the option of 3 cards you could have a VISA, MasterCard and Maestro, meaning the ability to pay anywhere, always. No need to switch your MasterCard, just have 'm all!

I like anytime and everywhere 😀👍

And now Unionpay and you can pay anywhere in the world!

But yes, Visa would be a nice option!

                  9 days later

I feel the same! With visa, I know a lot of people would convert to bunq, and I would immediately order the card!

It would also make the UK a better market for bunq. Visa is the standard there and although MasterCard does work in most stores, the maestro card is quite useless there.

Hate to disappoint but not going to happen any time soon :). The implementation times and cost are quite huge, and chosing an extra supplier on top of the one you have doesn't give much tangible benefit. The combo of MasterCard and Maestro already gives something like 99.9% coverage I believe. For that last 0.1% cash might be handy I guess :).

Fair enough, didn't expect the costs to be a lot. It's good to have this kind of transparency so we know which wish is (not) being worked on :)

Hi Ali, although I understand it’s a business decision based on costs and efforts to not add VISA, the benefit is real (and tangible). During last week (Costa Rica and MEX) my Maestro got declined several times, and even good old MasterCard more than once.

If it could be a (paid) option in the future, that would be great.

                          Cheers

Especialy in South America/Africa and some smaller countries in Asia. Always have a backup :)

Generally banks like BUNQ, N26, Comdirect and some non-banks all offer MasterCard/Maestro. I do not think VISA has the product to target such start-up bank models and offer White Label Card facility. VISA Electron is similar but it’s only issued by banks (established ones). In countries like Germany VISA/MasterCard are often not accepted while the Little known offshoot EC Card is still standard. Mind you I still get surprised cashiers in Frankfurt that have not seen credit/debit cards to do conactless/Touch n go.

Hi. If you include Africa in your population you probably fall around 3/4. Most countries and a lot of places over there wouldn’t take Mastercard even less so Maestro. Valid for most West and Central Africa. In Sao Tome only hotels take cards and only visa. I had poor experience in East Africa as well, but not recent. As you put cash is there the rule.

Revolut offers a visa card, for non premium users.
