How safe is it to give out my bunq IBAN number in the Netherlands? I’m getting quotes for Insurnace and one piece of information to get these quotes is my IBAN number. Is it okay to give out my IBAN just for a quote? Is the US you typically don’t give out your bank account number.
Is it safe to give out your IBAN?

@Jarom-Green-Hummingbird#109940 For a quote I would not recommend already giving out your IBAN, BUT with bunq they cannot simple withdraw your money, without you approving it first. So I don't think it's that unsafe, but it is weird for a quote.

@Jarom-Green-Hummingbird#109940 they can't really do much with just your IBAN. At bunq you must approve all direct debits, and even if bunq wouldn't do that you can dispute them in case they are not authorized by you. 🙂 I must say that I also find it a bit weird for a quote, never had that anywhere when looking to buy/buying something. 🙂
Thanks for the information!

@Jarom-Green-Hummingbird#109940 I don’t here in NL either. If someone demands it, I use an escrow account or a “burner” IBAN. In the US it’s more dangerous for sure, but I don’t like doing it here either

Hmm I always thought of it as a public key, are you saying it's not? It should be...

@Freek#110098 In the US it sure isn’t, direct debit abuse is relatively easy and the fraud protection not as well as here in NL imho. In NL I consider it to be a) enhancing security and b) enhancing privacy to use escrows and burners.

Met bunq kunnen ze hooguit geld storten op je rekening. Automatische incasso's moet je bij bunq eerst accepteren, dus als je dat niet doet kan er zover ik weet niets raars gebeuren. :)

As said before, the risk is quite small. However, if you wish to reduce the risk even further, Bunq allows you to open up a new IBAN account which you can use for these purposes.
