  • A message of Love

Dear bunq users,

Today we received some deeply disturbing news. We learned that one of our bunq users was attacked in India. Just for using his bunq colored rainbow card to pay for lunch. Needless to say, we are shocked and outraged. We immediately reached out to see what we can do to help our user.

The colors of our bunq cards represent the happiness and joy all people of the world associate with seeing the rainbow. Over time some have suggested changing the design of our cards to make them “less gay”. As if being gay would somehow be a bad thing.

We are sharing this message to take a stance. Rather than calling for outrage and anger we would like to call on everyone to embrace each other. Black, white, yellow, purple, gay, hetero, bi: in the end, we are all human.

All humans on this planet are equal. We should be free to express ourselves without fear. No matter age, color or sexual orientation. So, let’s take a stance and spread a message of love by sharing this message.

Love me for who I am for I love you for who you are. #spreadlove

Lots of love,

Ali | CEO of bunq

Danke Ali!

Ich hoffe unseren Freund kann geholfen werden.

So sad what happened. Hope he is not that hurt 😥

We are all human , sooner or later one day we will die regardless of our sexual tastes ... political, clothing ideas or cooking skills. So let’s try to be better (all of us) hate will not give us milions $$$. 🏳️‍🌈✌🏼

@Ali#112823 The world is full of colours, whether you like them or not. On the other hand you have to accept that no colour is wrong or right.

We are in this together, and it brings so much more joy to embrace others than to fight them, just over their colour of choice.

Such a pity some people don’t seem to want joy...

Sad to hear this kind of news... unfortunately produced by a handful of ignorant individuals. Hopefully, he will recover soon. I'll be even more proud to show my colourful mind & respectful behaviour towards anyone, no matter which background...and very happy to show off my colourful bunq cards!

Hi guys , I am deeply hurt by this happened to bunq user . I am an indian and I have always used Bunq card all over India and I will proud to say that , many people who have seen my card are very surprised and also asked me many time “ what type of card is it “ looks very nice” And many of my friends in India are actually taken from me to pay at counter because it is just that awesome to show off !!! When I told them about the app and features honestly Immediately they blew away and they wanted bunq in India as well .

This is my experience guys and I am really feeling so bad for this incident happened to one of user.

            I am really

Ali's stance on equality is commendable, but unfortunately we live in a world where we sometimes have to deal with people with a less progressive world view. Reality is that the rainbow colors may cause difficult situations in some places. I've had several situations, eg. in the middle east, where I left my bunq card safely in my wallet for these reasons, sad as that may be.

@Ali#112823 I’ve always felt a slight irritation when certain bunq users requested bunq to come up with different colors on the cards. Their argument is always “I don’t have anything against gays but I don’t want to be associated with gay colors”.

First of all: the LGBTQ flag has a different color scheme. Educate yourself!

Second: bunq’s colors, to me, represent diversity, fairness, freshness, variety and uniqueness.

Third: THERE IS NOTHING WRONG with being gay, lesbian, transgender, bisexual, asexual, queer, straight or whatever you choose to be!

What happened is horrible and I hope the victim will recover quickly without any remaining physical and (maybe even more important) mental consequences.

I’m a proud gay man, a proud member of the LGBTQ community and a proud bunq user. And although these are not directly related I do feel that bunq supports people in being what they are: human.

Thank you Ali, thank you dear bunqers and thank you all bunq users for choosing bunq and that way choosing a different way of banking.

Violence will never prevail, we shall resist with love.

                ❤️🌈💪🏻

Niets aan het kleurenschema veranderen. Laten we de kaart heel zichtbaar gaan gebruiken.

@Arjan#112914 I agree with all of these points, but shouldn't we keep the option open for a 1 color card? People should not be afraid to use bunq, but in some countries it can be dangerous. Maybe bunq is just ahead of it's time and other countries are not ready for this yet.

That’s terrible news. Regardless of the meaning of the colors on the card, people should have respect and keep their hands to themselves.

@Jos-Golden-Unicorn#112924 Precies!

I think that’s no ground to change the colors of bunq only because a small group of people misinterpretation the colors, the colors like on the card represent bunq as bank, it’s makes bunq to a unique bank.

@PP#112958 I don't say that we should change it because some people misinterpretate the colors. I think we should change it because people are now avoiding using the card. I pay with my phone alot any how, because bunq has that amazing feature included in the normal price (looking at you other banks!), but I think when people don't want to use the bunq card, because they're afraid of how people will react they should have a different choice. I honestly don't know how much this will be from bunq's side, but I do think they will come up with something cool like the Travel Card if needed.

I do think bunq stands for something great and I'm 100% sure bunq will do alot of great stuff in the future, but sadly you can't force to change the people around you.
