  • ATM ate my card, what now?

@Dzhaner-Cyan-Badger#113212 freeze the card immediately in the bunq app. Then you can try to contact the owner of the ATM (ING in this case?). The contact details should be on the machine as well. Normally it comes down to ordering a new card (which you can do yourself from the bunq app. 🙂

    Sander changed the title to ATM ate my card, what now?.

      @Dzhaner-Cyan-Badger#113212 Yes, unfortunately those ING atm’s don’t get too much love and attention of the orange lion, so sometimes they get hungry and eat the colorful bunq🌈-cards. I understand they taste good. 😋

        @DaveFlash#113221 Funny! But I guess the reason for this behaviour often is a frozen card or several wrong PIN entries, correct?

          @Heiko-Hartwig#113232 No, ATMs don’t “eat” cards upon several wrong PIN entries or a frozen card. It’s a malfunctioning of the mechanism that handles the card.

          Had (almost) nothing to do with the card, unless it’s too slippery for example.

          It’s a malfunction of the ATM not the card.

            There's actually another scenario in which a card is eaten. Basically the issuing bank can request a card to be taken using a special decline code.

            Most ATMs don't just take the card but destroy it so usually you'll have to get a replacement card.

              @Matthias-Olive-Hummingbird#113256 The ATMs don't destroy them (in the Netherlands), they end up in a special tray that can be emptied by service employees. 🙂 a replacement card is most likely the fastest option to get access to your money again anyway. 😁👍

                @Sander#113257 Interesting, in Germany and Austria they usually are destroyed. Seems to depend on the country and even bank then

                  Bij mij starte de hele automaat opnieuw op. Bleek het op Windows XP te draaien.. verklaarde een hoop.

                    @Matthias-Olive-Hummingbird#113260
                    Nö, die Karte ist eigentlich Eigentum der jeweiligen Bank und wird an den Herausgeber zurück gesendet. Zu mindestens war das zu meiner Zeit als Banker so. Aber das ist schon eine Weile her :)

                      @Heiko-Hartwig#113272 Yep, but the card is usually destroyed before it's sent back

                        @Jelle90#113268 Dat klopt inderdaad, veel van dit soort machines draaien op een uitgeklede en speciale 'embedded' versie van Windows XP. Altijd leuk om te zien als die dingen met een Blue Screen of Death staan, of andere fouten 😁

                          You can call ing and request to get your card back usually the cards going to the next branch of the bank, if there no branch it’s going to the headquarter of the bank. the cards don’t be destroyed.

                            @PP#113331 that's really dependent on your bank. Banks In the Netherlands for instance also do not return found cards, they are destroyed when handed in. 🤔 Quite a waste of plastic. 🙂
