Peter Yeah. I would say the biggest question in Germany is if a store accepts card payments or not. If they do, most of them take Mastercard, Visa, Maestro and V-Pay (and the German system "Girocard"). Some of these shops only take Maestro, V-Pay and Girocard, though, so that's where having a Maestro card can come in handy in Germany. There are also a few shops that limit themselves to just the Girocard, but I personally treat them as "cash-only" then :P
Of course, there are always exceptions. Once I was in a bakery that wouldn't accept my Mastercard, but took my Amex. So, I'm sure there are all kinds of shops. But V-Pay is definitely also widely accepted.
