• Travel card issuing country

Hey!

I assumed that the Travel card would be issued in the Netherlands, but I'm seeing different details in different payment services:

  • Chase Manhattan Bank (US)
  • VTB Bank OJSC (Russia)

Those are from Revolut and Transferwise

Where is the card actually issued and where does the conflicting information come from? 🤔

    Its because of the BIN number in your cardnumber (first 6 digits). This number (bank identification number) was probably used before by those banks that where detected and their BIN-database isn't updated yet. But the card is issued in the Netherlands.

      @AllanPeterson#115875 Hi!

      Looks like that their BIN databases are both not up-to-date, because the Travel Card is issued in The Netherlands.
      Also check: https://binlist.net

        On https://binlist.net it says Germany and BUNQ B.V. for me if I enter the first 8 digits instead of 6.
        I guess the digit 7 and 8 are for the country then 😊.
        For me its: 5115 8003, if I enter 5115 8002 or 5115 8001, it says the Netherlands for me.

          Thanks for the super quick responses!
          Interestingly when I enter the first 6 digits in BIN checker it says Russia - only when entering the first 8 does it come up as Bunq.
          I always thought that the first 6 digits should identify the issuer?

            @AllanPeterson#115887 Hey Alain, bunq is not only active in NL, that's why bunq uses the 7. and 8. digit to specify the country :) So my card sent to Austria has 04 after the first 6 digits, that's why my card get's detected as an Austrian card although bunq is a NL bank.
            This is completely normal and other banks do the same, when they are active in more than one country
