Using your card

💳 Do I need cash in Switzerland, or can I use my card everywhere?

Card payments are widely accepted in Switzerland. It is a good idea to have some cash on you just in case.

💰 What currency do they use here?

The currency here is Swiss francs. The symbol is CHF.

🏧 Which ATM’s can I use for free?

The bunq community has reported that all ATM's here are free to use. 🎉

💵 If I want cash, how much should I take out of an ATM?

30 CHF. should be enough for a few days, since you can use your card for nearly everything.

💳 Should I choose local currency or Euros when paying?

If you're asked to choose between local currency and Euros, always choose local currency.

📱 Can I roam, or should I get a local SIM?

Some EU mobile plans will charge you for roaming in Switzerland.Some others have decided to consider this country as part of the EU in terms of roaming.

Wifi is readily available in Switzerland, especially in coffee shops.

A service charge is generally included in the bill. If you feel the service was good, you can round up the amount to the nearest few euros. A 10% tip is considered excesive though.

Do not spend your money on taxis! Public transport is amazingly effective in this country. In addition, most of the cities are walkable.

    Its not possible to take out 30 CHF from ATMS, the smallest notes in ATMs are 20Fr, so either choose 20 or 40

      Please add this: “While MasterCard is accepted almost everywhere, there are some daily life expenses that only accept maestro (Die Post, Small clinics, veterinarians, etc).”

        Bien que la masterCard Travel et suppergreen soivent des crédit en suisse certain endroit ne les accepte pas prenez avec vous la bunq débit

        Pour les retrait c est comme en France on ne peut pas prendre 30CH mais 20 ou 40 seront suffisant

        Pour payer je vous conseillé de payer si vous y êtes invite en monnaie local c est a dire le franc suisse vous aurez aucun frais

            Je vais bientôt travailler en Suisse rien que mon employeur me demande un RIB qui commence par ch je voulais savoir si banque propose un RIB comme ça ou bien il faut que je passe par une autre banque

              @Adnan-Lime-Lynx#254354 Then you would need a Swiss bank account. As Switzerland is not part of the EU, the companies and banks there aren't bound to the same rules and it might not be easily possible to use your EU bank account in all situations.

              If you're gonna live in Switzerland, maybe check out https://www.neon-free.ch as I've heard some good things about them. You can only open an account as a Swiss resident, though, not from abroad. Another one I've heard about is https://yapeal.ch
