  • Buy a Tourist Octopus card when arriving at the airport. It can be used for public transport and at convenience stores. The remaining balance can be refunded when returning it.

    mastercard is the most commonly accepted card. Google maps to get around and try use the MTR (underground metro) as its extremely cheap. It is rare to find a place that does not accept cash. I lived in Hong Kong for my 18 years as a minor so I never had a card. No problem. Tourist octopus cards are very good too if you’re travelling as you can purchase things in grocery stores + convenience stores as well as use public transport (not taxis/ubers). sometimes uber is cheaper than taxis so keep that in mind. Also there is free wifi almost everywhere in HK. But if you want a SIM go to 7/11
