Using your card

๐Ÿ’ณ Do I need cash in Mexico, or can I use my card everywhere?

Cash is widely used, but cards are also accepted. It is advisable to carry some cash with you at all times.

๐Ÿ’ฐ What currency do they use here?

The currency here is Mexican peso. The symbol is $ or MXN.

๐Ÿง Which ATMโ€™s can I use for free?

The bunq community hasn't reported reported any free ATM's here yet. If you find one, help other bunqers by sharing it here!

๐Ÿ’ต If I want cash, how much should I take out of an ATM?

2 000 MXN should be enough for a few days.

๐Ÿ’ณ Should I choose local currency or Euros when paying?

If you're asked to choose between local currency and Euros, always choose local currency.

That way bunq does the conversion for you, and you get to take advantage of the best rates with bunq ZeroFX.

Staying connected

๐Ÿ“ฑ Can I roam, or should I get a local SIM?

Most EU mobile plans will charge you for roaming.

Wifi is readily available, especially in coffee shops.

Just an update on the experience. It works like a charm. However there is one bank that doesnโ€™t seem to like our bunq travel card, the BBVA banks now โ€˜swallowedโ€™ the card three times in three different sites and cities. All others work fine :)

Yeah! Me too, BBVA swallowed my card ๐Ÿ˜ฃ. After trying several ATM, I found one that you can withdraw money several times totally FREE. Itโ€™s SANTANDER. Normally thereโ€™s always one near Soriana Supermarket.

            Hope this helps! ๐Ÿ’ช

@danigil#198566 Same story here, BBVA swallowed my card and are unable to retrieve it. Seems like a need to replace the card

@Carolien-Olive-Hummingbird#206366 Yes, I waited for the office hours and they gave it to me. Good luck and donโ€™t use BBVA there ๐Ÿ˜”

In many shopping malls it is only possible to pay once a day with the same card.

                    3 months later

I have a question. Is it also possible to use my Bunq with NFC instead of having a fysical card with me?

                      2 years later

Santandar is definitely the winner so far! I was able to retrieve 9000 pesos for a fee of 34 pesos. Atm didnโ€™t switch to English. So far Iโ€™ve tried HSBC, citibank, bbva and banorte. The latter two didnโ€™t allow me to retrieve anything and the first two I was only able to retrieve 5000 pesos max for a fee of โ‚ฌ3,95.

                      So santandar wins so far!

                        a month later

Problemen met de BBVA, van alles geprobeerd maar krijg er geen geld uit, Santander is wel altijd betrouwbaar
