Hi! Is there a way I can get abonnament with Vodafone NL with a bunq card? I browsed the discussion here and this issue popped up before but I don’t see if it has been refused since. For now I get refused to sign an abonnament contract with Vodafone with my bunq card since it doesn’t have an IBAN number on the card. Which is a bummer ‘cause that’s the only Dutch account I have.

I think all the Dutch phone providers use the same approach. There is an IBAN mentioned on your Maestro card, right? Just make sure that that card is connected to the bank account with the mentioned IBAN and your good. This is just for the ' first time', when you have the contract you can easily change the bank account to a different one if you like (that's how I did it with T-Mobile).

@Malgorzata-Violet-Akita#126796 Je moet een bankrekening hebben waarvan geïncasseerd kan worden. Als je een Travel Card abonnement hebt dan kan dat niet. Je moet daarvoor een Premium abonnement hebben.

@Malgorzata-Violet-Akita#126796 yes, you can, but you have to call them to get it solved, the iban on the card thing is an old thing and should not be used anymore by companies to do verifications. and it's stupid, considering more and more companies are removing stuff from the cards, look at apple card, only the name is printed/laser-etched on to it. no card numbers, account numbers, expiry date or security codes, in a few years, that will be the standard, a card with only your name on it. i wish Vodafone good to get new costumers then 😉

Jeroen I have a joint account with husband. He has premium ( not sure what my status is, premium is my guess) and yet he still doesn’t have IBAN on his bunq card, which is the main issue for Vodafone. I also find the whole story absurd, I’m new to the Netherlands but noticed cards generally are an issue here... also, I got refused to sign an abonnament with them based on my Belgian account which I learned now is illegal as per European law of common market...

@Malgorzata-Violet-Akita#126806 Eh...what kind of cards does he have with his Premium account? It should be a maestro card to be able to get a mobile phone subscription.

Ok, an update. I browsed through options in bunq and noticed Maestro has IBAN issued on the card. Having been here for a month only I noticed Maestro is loved in the Netherlands as if it was the only system out there ( meanwhile it doesn’t work well outside Europe so I always perceived it the worst of options) so I just ordered it and will show it to the Vodafone guys and get it all over with. 🤦‍♀️

Thanks everyone, btw! I think Maestro indeed will get me sorted in my beginnings in the Netherlands :)

@Malgorzata-Violet-Akita#126819 Fijn dat je het gevonden hebt! Je zal voor de meeste winkels in Nederland merken dat je daar ook niet met een MasterCard kan betalen en alleen met een Maestro betaalkaart.

@Malgorzata-Violet-Akita#126815 Yeah..make sure the IBAN on the card is the same one as the connected bank account ;-) then you'll be fine. Afterwards it does not matter to which account it is connected off course. ;-)
