• Virtual Cards

I know this has been touched briefly in other topics, but as someone concerned about privacy in general I wanted to lay out my ideas about this.

I looked for a service that provided me with virtual debit cards and came across Privacy.com. However, this service is only usable in the US. Currently, there are no other European services that provide the same UX...

It would be great if Bunq would offer multiple virtual MasterCard/Maestro debit cards that can be used for services or purchases separately or even (what would be great) for one time use, mitigating the risks of tracking, data breaches and fraud.

For example, I want to by this product online from a company I don’t know. Instead of using my real card, I can use a temporary virtual card that will be destructed after my purchase, or in a few days, so I can be sure that my payment details and my card stay safe. I think this would be a great addition to Bunq!

    Hey there,

Good point! The way we mitigated this issue is by doing the following: why can't we do both? Is there a way to just give you a card that does prevent data breach issues?

Our fix: a renewing CVC code that you can only find in your app. Data breach? They still don't have the CVC code they'll need to do anything with your card. You'll have to watch your Dodgy Payments setting with this though, if you put it too high, you might open yourself up for this risk.

      Hi Koen,

Yeah, I really like the feature of the rotating CVC and this really helps with data breaches. However, as for the privacy, your card number can be tracked so that the company exactly knows when you have bought something and what that product was. This is also a part of a data breach. Combing that with other data breaches or available for information can give a very detailed picture about your spening habits and your personal interests...

Remember that a data breach contains your address and your card number can reveal much more than would be desirable. Even when they’re not able to use the card...

To add another concern about static credit card numbers: credit card numbers are often used for some kind of verification. PayPal for example, asks for the last 4 digits of your credit card when you contact their customer service.

When your cc-number has been compromised, it can be used for quite some nasty things.

Their system knows actually all the numbers. But their site and customer service can only see the last 4 digits I think

Yes I know, but that means that the bad guys can steal your account by using the last digits of the stolen card number
