• Problem with Green Card as iTunes Payment option

I came to notice that I can not add the Green Card as my new iTunes Payment option at all. All it says is that the payment method is not valid in this store.
Anyone has the same problem?

    That's just Apple discriminating against non-domestic payment cards (on a per country store basis).

      @NiB#135992
      Really? The BIN of my Green Card is 5115 8035 (= The Netherlands) although I am from Germany ... so I won't be able to use the card in iTunes or Apple Store? Just tried this out: not possible

      (never mind, I got my German AMEX for this)

        @JU#135920 @NiB#135992 @Heiko-Hartwig#136020 There is a reason why the Debit Mastercard and Travel Cards don't have an issue, and that's because bunq issues BINs per country. The 7. and 8. digit of the card number are different per country, 35 is Germany and 36 is Austria as an example.
        For the Green Card bunq is using the same BIN as for the Travel Card (5115 80), but different country "codes" so they can probably be distinguished for e.g. Apple/Google Pay (so you see a different card image).
        Now all the databases have to be updated again, so they can recognise the new 7. and 8. digits of the new cards.
        You shouldn't have similar issues like in the past, that cards get recognised as Russian, as 5115 80 is well known by most databases by now (as a NL card).
        This will probably take 1-2 months again (till the Green Cards are actually getting shipped) to be fixed with most merchants, but besides merchants like iTunes most of them who do have country limits just limit it to the EU, not to specific EU countries, and it is still getting recognised as NL, so as an EU card.

        And good to know: This is btw how bunq, and other FinTechs can block Apple and Google Pay for specific countries.

        Also good to know: Free BIN databases you can find in the internet are databases, they do not refresh instantly/automatically, they are as good as the data behind it. So just because one of them says "Netherlands" doesn't mean bunq gave you a NL card, it just means the database isn't updated yet.

          @johannes#136025 merchants like iTunes most of them who do have country limits just limit it to the EU, not to specific EU countries

          ...which (limiting it to specific EU countries, that is) would now be illegal anyway for most merchants or types of transactions (though maybe not Apple).

            @johannes#136025 35 is not Germany, 36 not Austria. 35 as 7. and 8. digit is recognized as NL.

              @Andys#136466 Please read the last part of my comment again, bin databases are not 100% accurate, especially with new BINs. Just because a bin database tells you it's NL, doesn't mean it actually is NL.

                @Andys#136466 .. and most merchants just use BIN databases, that's why with new cards it's not accurate at all, and also why many merchants recognised the Travel Card as Russian first, because the BIN was previously owned by a Russian bank.

                  @johannes#136468 So it’s a mistake from bunq or on purpose. They might not issue BIN per country for the green card. If so and someone orders card from Germany why not BIN 51158003 which is recognized a german? The issue with travel card was also bunq‘s fault, so they replaced the travel cards.

                    @Andys#136470 Andre, the issue with the Travel Card was absolutely not bunq's fault, Mastercard assigned the BIN. The replacement Travel Cards got a BIN that was used by an US bank first, but they waited a bit longer before they sent out the cards, so most BIN databases got updated. There are also simply less issues with an US card, compared to a Russian card.

                      @Andys#136470 And it's not a mistake by bunq, they issue BIN per countries. BIN databases are not 100% accurate with new cards, this is not just a bunq issue. The new cards have a slightly different BIN, so they can e.g. show a different card image in Apple and Google Pay, they have to do this via the BIN.

                        @Andys#136470 And I'm pretty sure, that as soon as bunq send out the first green cards in 2 months, most databases will be up to date and you will be able to use your Green Card as a German card, like you can with the Travel and Debit MasterCard.

                            The issue that the Green Card has the BIN 5115 8035, whereas the Travel Card has 5115 8003 (at least for German customers).

                            5115 8035 gets recognized as "The Netherlands", and 5115 8003 get recognized as "Germany".

                            This is something that only bunq can fix. Hopefully they will issue new card numbers before the production of the physical card. Sending out a Metal Replacement Card with a correct BIN would be totally annoying (and defeating the idea of a long-living, "green" card.)

                                Do bunqers from other countries have other BINs with their Green Cards?
                                The Travel Card was recognized as "Germany" right away, btw.

                                  @TK#137023 Why is it something only bunq can fix? Maybe binlist has to fix it.

                                      bunq is the bank that is issuing the cards. They have to update the database at Mastercard.
                                      And they have to make sure not to give German customers Dutch BINs (and vice versa).
                                      (And bunq does know how to do this, as they already did this with the Travel Card, which has no such issues.)

                                      Furthermore:
                                      Apple does not use "BINLIST" — Apple uses the data provided by Mastercard (and thus by bunq).

                                        @pbruins84#137026

                                        Ik neem aan dat je in Nederland woont. Welke BIN heb je gekregen met de GreenCard? :-)

                                          @TK#137027 And they are doing the same with the Green Card, but as mentioned several times: BIN databases that you can find on Google or even merchants like Apple are using have to update their data first, and this takes time. bunq can't just press a button and all merchants and random free BIN databases have the latest data.
                                          The replacement Travel Card didn't work with iTunes at first either, because it got recognised as an US card (the Travel Card BIN was "owned" by an US bank before bunq got the BIN by MasterCard), this was even mentioned in the Replacement Travel Card FAQ.
                                          And now it's the same again, we just have to wait.
