  • Debit Mastercard entfernen!

Hallo,
so richtig weiß ja wohl niemand, was der Unterschied zwischen der Debit Mastercard und der Credit Mastercard, die auch Travel Card genannt wird, ist.

Aber mir scheint, also sei das so gekommen: Am Anfang gab es nur die Debit Mastercard, die Apple Pay-Unterstützung hatte. Diese wurde allerdings von einigen Zahlterminals (z.B. bei Autovermietungen) nicht angenommen, da diese nicht als „richtige“ Kreditkarte angesehen wird. Um das Problem zu lösen, wurde die Credit Mastercard eingeführt. Diese ist genau das selbe, wie die Debit Mastercard, nur mit dem Unterschied, dass sie von Zahlterminals als „richtige“ Kreditkarte erkannt und dadurch nicht abgelehnt wird. Diese Credit Mastercard hatte allerdings keine Apple Pay-Unterstützung.

Seit vor einigen Wochen Apple Pay für die Credit Mastercard eingeführt wurde, gibt es keinen Grund mehr, die Debit Mastercard zu verwenden. Dies führt lediglich zu Verwirrungen und Missverständnissen.

Meiner Meinung nach, sollte man die Debit Mastercard entfernen.

Wer ist auch der Meinung?

    All fair points. I know that bunq is evaluating 🤔 the regular Mastercard to decide what to do with it. My personal guess is that it will disappear eventually.

    So we have to wait and see what happens.

              Maestro is different from MC. Accepting Maestro doesn't imply accepting MC Debit and/or credit or the other way around. Especially in The Netherlands there are shops that use Maestro only. Merchants need to have a contract for all types of cards and every card implies a different fee for the merchant. Maestro typically has a fixed fee of a few cents. Creditcards a fixed fee + a % of the sum that is being paid. Merchants decide what they want to accept/include in their terminal contracts.

                @David-Night-Fox-2260538364#136446 In Deutschland wird die Maestro mangels Bekanntheitsgrad fast nirgendwo akzeptiert. Lediglich die Post und einige wenige große Lebensmittelketten akzeptieren Maestro. Die Sparkassen geben zwar Maestro aus, aber immer als Cobranding mit Girocard.

                  @Bernd-Cyan-Penguin#136484 Ich habe noch nicht erlebt das unsere MaestroCard nicht akzeptiert wurde. Wir nutzen sie hauptsächlich in Geschäften wo noch dieses alte EC Zeichen angebracht ist.

                    Bislang konnte ich in Deutschland in allen Geschäften mit der Maestro bezahlen, wo auch die Mastercard akzeptiert wurde . Da ich fast ausschließlich über Apple Pay zahle und meine Maestro die erste Wahl ist benötige ich die MC Debit somit nicht. Kleine Läden die nur die Girocard verlangen meide ich mittlerweile. Mit der Zeit werden auch diese notgedrungen freiwillig umstellen, wenn diesbezüglich viele mitmachen.

                      Ich verwende auch nur die Maestro, per Apple Pay. Bisher gab es noch nie ein Problem, sie hat überall funktioniert.

                      Sollte sie mal irgendwo nicht funktionieren, habe ich ja die Credit Mastercard, für den Notfall.

                      Vielleicht gibt es irgendwo auf der Welt ein Kartenterminal, das sowohl die Maestro als auch die Credit Mastercard ablehnt, aber deswegen dann immer noch eine dritte Karte, Debit Mastercard, mitschleppen?

                        Ook ik zie niet in waarom er nog een debit MasterCard wordt aangeboden. Met een travel (credit) card of een green (credit) card en een maestro card zou (in ieder geval in Nederland) overal betaald kunnen worden. In welke situatie zou een debit MasterCard nodig zijn?

                            @Sander#136448 Ich habe auch mit dem bunq-Privatchat gesprochen. Man konnte mir keinen Unterschied nennen, bis auf die Tatsache, dass die Credit Mastercard besser angenommen wird, da sie eben als „richtige” Kreditkarte erkannt wird.

                              @David-Night-Fox-2260538364#136540 at least the chat and I are saying the same thing. 😬 But indeed, there's little use for the debit MC when you have the credit MC ("Travelcard"). But as mentioned, there is the (maybe theoretical) case where some merchant won't accept Creditcards, but does accept debitcards (being Maestro or MC). In that case the Debit MC would be useful, but to be honest, I've never encountered that situation. 🙂

                                @pbruins84#136443 Yeah I had this at a gas station in France. The coffee machine only accepted debit cards, but not Maestro. I was happy I still had the debit MC in my wallet.

                                  Pourquoi vouloir suprimer un choix? Chaque bunqer peut ainsi trouver la carte utile. Je n'ai pas besoin de maestro pourtant les hollandais ont en besoin. Bunq est la banque du choix et j'aime cela.

                                    Richtiger wäre ja eher, dass in D eigentlich überall dort, wo Maestro akzeptiert wird, auch ohnehin Mastercard akzeptiert wird.
                                    Bis auf extrem wenige Ausnahmen, wo nicht einmal darauf hingewiesen wird dass Maestro akzeptiert wird, weil es dort heißt: „wir nehmen nur EC Karte“
