• bunq Premium Limited

Today I received the following message: "As part of this big step to a greater bunq experience, we have fully discontinued the bunq Free / More / Premium Limited subscriptions. However, we want to make sure that you get to experience the latest Premium features that make life easy. You have been automatically upgraded to bunq Premium and your first 3 months of bunq Premium are free. This way you can get the full bunq experience without any hassle."

I have bunq Premium Limited from the Black Friday special: https://together.bunq.com/d/5692-black-friday-special-faq. It says there: "You can use this membership for as long as you'd like- it won’t expire.".
So that was just not true.

What happens after the three month of Premium for free? I am very disappointed in bunq.

@Moritz-Navy-Unicorn#153190 I agree with you and pointed this out as well, bunq made a promise and they have to keep it imho...

Anyway, after the 3 months you will pay €7,99/month.

How do you cancel your subscription?

@Newtype#153207 No, you will just have to start paying €7,99/month. The cards will thus remain active.

Tim changed the title to bunq Premium Limited.

@Moritz-Navy-Unicorn#153211 With a 3 months notice, they may have been able to - but they actually promised it’d be free for as long as you like. That was a lie. Now of course the solution is: claim breach of contract and... leave. That’s the position bunq is taking. They know you only have one choice: pay up or claim its a breach and undo the agreement, ending your account.

... However, given the impact of a bank account and the promises bunq made - if you were to challenge this in a smalls claims court (possible on EU-level), I wonder if this argument would hold up. I doubt it would. But really, who’ll do that? Bunq knows they have you by the... Well, you know. ;) And this arrogance when dealing with clients is what will eventually destroy bunq as this is the Xth time they violate their customers’ trust and break promises. You can’t rely on what they say, they’ll change it at will whenever they please and don’t care at all if they lose you as a client because of it or if it hurts their name and reliability. Its all about the money and data. :)

@LH-Black-Wolf#153218 So basically his 2nd sentence.

PS: Bunq should offer the Premium Promo customers adequate compensation, a meager 3 months trial and then charging fees automatically is consumer unfriendly behavior.

This is also against the law in EU memberstates.

Basically a Premium Light variation but with Ideal + Cards + Apple Pay active would be agreeable for me personally.

@Eduardo-Blue-Falcon#153273 Well there was a poll on which I myself also took part of.

Ik wist dat dit zou komen, dus ik had mijn vertrek al voorbereid.

@TimothyA#153282 and does the poll ask you if you wanted to remove current subscriptions and ask for more money?

"More than 80% of bunqers indicated they wanted new subscriptions with the possibility to plant trees with all cards!" so... they wanted NEW, but nobody ask for changing current or removing. Maybe the question was already prepared to get the answer they wanted ;-)

@Eduardo-Blue-Falcon#153340 Yes, it was solely about new subscriptions and not about removing any...

In my household as well. We're all switching to Moneyou for a free bank account and iDeal. I will just wait for the weekend before making the overstapservice. I see the avalanche of negative messages flooding bunq Together now, and the few ones defending seem to be employees of the bank. My hope is that they will write something like: "Hey guys, we heard loud and clear! We apologize for the mistake and we will fix it." If not, the passport is ready for signing up with new banks. :)

Is it legal to automatically switch free users to paid ones without an agreement?

@Fabian-Red-Llama#153508 I'd like to know that as well

@Fabian-Red-Llama#153508 I guess they found a loophole. The overall rule (as far as I know) is that you can’t increase the price of a membership without giving the user time to think about whether they agree with this change an giving them the option to cancel the subscription. So it wouldn’t be legal to announce this today and having the users start to pay the new fee starting immediately.
Now that’s where they were smart: you got 3 months of your new subscription for free. So you don’t have to start paying immediately and these 3 months can be used as the time to make the choice whether you’re okay with this change, while they also show you all the new stuff you get for this new price.

So, short answer: yes, as far as I can tell this is legal.

Is it legal not to inform about the change of terms and conditions, the change of the privacy policy, the change of the price list...?

@Bruno-Maroon-Tiger#153435 Even though they realize their "mistake", the question is would you trust in them? they broke their promise, the manipulated survey (by asking questions in a tricky way to get wat they wanted) and use "green" as a cause to get more money in. If I want to support green then I donate the money to an organization that it is good at that, not to a bank!
