  • [WISH] Extend Giropay🇩🇪 & Bancontact 🇧🇪 function in times of Corona/COVID—19 🦠

Great news from bunq today, they just launched Giropay for topups, for German users just like they added Bancontact for that awhile ago for Belgian users.

Both are of course nice when it comes to topping up, but this is only half of what these two systems can be used for.
Just like iDEAL for the Netherlands and SOFORT for a bunch of other countries, both are also payment methods for webshops and in apps.

So as a lot of people are at home now because of the pandemic, whether mandatory or on some such thing as an intelligent lock-down, getting your basic needs is more challenging then ever, so a lot of us turn to online to get our groceries, clothing, disposables, medical supplies and other goods.

in these dire times it would also benefit a lot of smaller webshops and apps across Belgium and Germany, wo do not necessarily always take creditcards, to have the benefit of us bunqers being able to shop at them, when respectively Bancontact and Giropay are the only options...

Therefore, let's turn this into wish for bunq to add Giropay as an option for payment requests from the bunq app and bunqMe pages.

And ASAP for both of them to be added inside of the bunq app alongside the great iDEAL and SOFORT support to be used by all bunq users (agnostic) wherever they may reside on any Belgian and German e-commerce websites, store fronts and marketplace apps.

Peace✌️🏻 Out.

Why would those webshops not offer any of the plethora of other options?

@DaveFlash#157196 I did not know a bank outside Germany could be used as a giropay payment method? Are there any outside-Germany banks that do this?

Please bring back Apple Pay Topup! My bank does not support giropay und credit card takes so long with 3D-Secure…

@bmikaili#157239 because of the costs of creditcards.

@TimothyA#157262 not htat i know of, but most other big banks have a local branch in each country, bunq operates as a cross-border bank, thus they have a reason to support as many local payment methods as are needed.

@DaveFlash#157389 Oh okay, I only know about banks with a German IBAN having the availability of giropay, girocards, etc... So having a German banking license would be good 😅

@TimothyA#157391 Girocard and Giropay are two different things entirely, though. Giropay is just our iDEAL / Interac clone, and Girocard is a debit card network (that only works at POS). There is some kind of project going on to marry all of these together, but afaik as of right now they have nothing in common but the name.

Still, if a Dutch bank can even participate in Giropay is something I would doubt.

@Jakob-Y#157396 No, what I meant was, is that both systems are only present in the German system and therefore I don't think bunq will be able to provide giropay as a payment method, unless they get a German banking license or partner with a German bank...

@TimothyA#157399 No that is not needed, as Giropay is first and foremost a webshop payments solution, it’s available for any company or bank who sets up a joint partnership with giropay GmbH, just like they’ve done with Currence iDEAL B.V for iDEAL and with Klarna AB for both their SOFORT product and the bank connection based Klarna Betalning / Pay Now solution. (Which incidentally also works with the QR code in combination with bunq, just like with IDEAL and SOFORT, but uses a diffirent website/platform from Klarna.)

@Flo1979#157616 Then the list above will have you find dealers that do😉

                          a month later

Extended support for Bancontact would be a big plus for Bunq. All belgian apps and websites support Bancontact as payment method. It's the most used one in Belgium.

Next to extended support for online Bancontact payments, a Bancontact card option would be a big plus to. Maestro isn't always supported at local shops or require an extra cost.

Kann mann auch einen Dispo beantragten
