  • A more insightful insights!

Hi bunq,

Right off the bat I want to say I love bunq Insights. They do help provide us with a better understanding of our monthly expenses. But there are multiple ways to make this even more featureful - more insightful!

Firstly, apologies if I am mentioning something which has already been discussed here, I might have missed it. Please send me the main Together post I shall hi5 that one! Also, do check out this suggestion by Luca https://together.bunq.com/d/19035-add-multiple-custom-categories-to-payment , it is on the same lines!

I have shifted my main account from KBC (Belgium) to bunq. Although bunq has far more features overall compared to KBC, they did actually have a good insight of your expenses. In their webapp, you could actually see your income as well as your expenses, both in a histogram and a pie chart. The histogram in addition to the pie chart (like the one bunq uses) was actually very useful. You could see your monthly total expenses per month, for the recent 3/6/9/12 months and compare them. If you clicked on one category, say Restaurants, then you could compare Restaurants expenses of all the months in a nice represented manner. By this way, you could see if in any month you had more than usual, and compare them. Trust me, you do save money by viewing your spending and comparing them! Right now in bunq I get an overview of my monthly expenses and how it is divided, that is all.

Some other additional things KBC did was show your income vs outcome, and track your cash flow. You could see how much is your average cash flow per month and how it progresses.

bunq doesn't allow us to record incomes of any kind on the Insights. Not even from my friends when you share a meal or drinks via the split feature in bunq. As a part of that dinner was not my monthly expense and I got paid back for the remaining part, it would be nice if we could somehow manually adjust that in insights, or just show income as well. Or automate the ones using bunq's split.

On the point of manually adjusting insights, I would also like to have the ability to remove some transactions from the insights. Like the dinner example with friends, a small amount is still fine in the insights, but let's say you are planning a trip with friends/family who will pay you back and you just booked an airbnb/hostel and flight tickets, those will show up and really screw up that month's insights.

Also, like Luca mentioned in his post, adding multiple categories, your own custom ones and also sub-categories inside categories will also be nice.

Cheers,
Sayon

I second this. While there are several third-party apps that can do this (MoneyMoney for example) I‘d love to have this integrated directly into the bunq app too

Yes! And please, if custom categories are not possible, at least add “education” and “kids” separately from family. I believe in power of diversity and it’s clear that you don’t have a lot of working parents making decisions 😁🤣

I completely agree with you. I would love to see insights that track my incomes, and the ability to split my expenses (when I pay in a restaurant for a group, or when I return a part of my order in a webshop).
Quick tip: You can already remove a transaction from insights when you manually assign then as hidden.

I posted this about 2 months ago but did not receive any traction. I was really hoping bunq could focus on this in their new update v3, or maybe still do!?
This is what makes a banking app more user-friendly, and I really think this will be welcomed a lot!

I agree. I think many people are waiting for this. And it would take little effort to make it happen!

This post describes exactly the improvements I would like to see! Every month I pay for group activities and send payment requests. Insights does not take payment requests into account for the overview. So every month it shows that I have spent alot but in reality I recevied much of it back through payment requests.

Hopefully they will add payment requests in the overview, and link the payments automatically when you create requests directly from the initial payment.

@teun272#276603 We actually fixed your point specifically in the last bunq Update 22. You can now categorise incoming payments/requests, and they will count against your spend in that category. When you create a Split from a €10 payment for food with a friend, the requests will automatically get "Food" category too, so when you view your Insights category for Food, you'll see you only spend net €5

We want to get Insights working amazingly, so other suggestions on what would make them even more useful to you are highly appreciated. We've got a few more improvements rolling out in the next week.

Hey Bunq Team, I would love a top level report of all Income Vs all Spend across whichever subaccounts I choose.
The difficulty with the categorising Income against a category is

                    1. Finding all the Income across sub accounts is tricky. Have to manually scroll through each sub account and find and adjust it

                    2. Even if you do tag income against a category and you're using the Auto Budget feature then it didn't total it correct. Eg if my salary €1000 income is tagged as Finance and split into sub accounts for auto budget. Say i spend €600 I should be left with €400.. Instead on the Spending Insights it just hides Finance (because I didn't go over) but it should say Finance is +€400.
Try balance your income Vs spend in Spending Insights across sub accounts and it doesn't balance

                      Hey there, @New-Turquoise-Kiwi-2928004516#285061 👋
Thanks for your input! We're aware of the challenges you've mentioned, and we're working to enhance the income vs. spending tracking experience across sub-accounts. Your feedback is important in shaping the future of bunq 🌈
