• Pas vue comme une carte de crédit

personally i choose bunq because they claim they are proposing credit card. But it is not true. These are not credit card with an authorisation to spend e.g. 3’000 euro /month and the spending being charged at the end of the month. What they have are debit cards and the rest is unfair business. I stop using it and stay with Revolut where you can topup the account with a credit card at no fees thus making it possible to use revolut card as a true credit card. You can do the same with Monese with some complicated transfers but it works.

      @Tim#163869 this is not true. It is not a credit card because you don’t have a credit line associated with. And the merchant wishing to block a certain amount of money as a guarantee sees it i his terminal. With a normal bank the credit card is used as a guarantee but you never have to block your own money. You block the one of the bank. Come on, i use such card for years now, renting cars with Hertz Europcar etc, or seeing the hotel blocking e.g. 109 £ on each day i spend with it and getting his money back 1-2-3 weeks later. With a true. redit card i don’t care. I never have to give my money. But with Bunq i do care because it is my own money which us blocked. Why should i pay even a cts for such “a service”?

        @Dcoche#163881 wrong. I topup these two account with a credit card (e.g. Miles n More Lufthansa crédit card) and then they simply work as credit cards. Not possible with Bunq because they either reject the topup or charge 0.5%. I have no reason for paying such a high amount of fee

          Ik heb de credit card gewoon gekoppeld aan een rekening die altijd weer door mij wordt aangevuld tot 2500 euro. Dan is het echt niet anders, alleen dat ik voor mezelf garant sta en dat het allemaal wat transparanter is.
          Als er geld geblokkeerd wordt op een andere credit card, gaat je bestedingslimiet ook gewoon omlaag totdat het wordt vrijgegeven.

            @Dcoche#163873 incorrect. Credit means somebody lend you money either for free or based on interest. This is not the case of the bunq cards. You can turn it as you like at the end if the day you have to bring the money (e.g. guarantee) not the bank. Therefore it is not a credit card as an Amex or a normal VISA Card

              @Bernard-Cyan-Lion#163882 bunq blocks the money available on your account, as it would normally be blocked from your limit. You technically have a variable limit equal to your balance, and this is paid/reset on the first of the month. For example you also still receive interest over the money spend with your bunq credit card until the first when they are settled. bunq's cards qualify as a credit card this way and are branded as such by Mastercard. Yes they work different for the user but the merchant can't see the difference and can't deny it for such reason as long as the transactions go through.

                This is not true. Please don't share false statements. The bunq creditcards are official creditcards, given out by bunq and Mastercard. They comply with all official regulations of creditcards. A creditcard is not defined by having a credit line as you define it. (the bunq cards technically have some sort of credit line, but you provide your own credit basically)

                Giving you some more technical details; normally banks settle these loans/credit on a monthly (or other periodic?) basis; this is what happens at bunq too. However, with "traditional" cards you'd get a charge at the moment of settlement. bunq takes the money immediately when paying and bunq moves it into an internal temporary IBAN, meaning you can not spend that money a second time. A merchant is NOT able to see this. All the merchant sees is that you're paying with a bunq Mastercard creditcard, they can't see the details of how things work behind the scenes. Obviously, when your balance is insufficient the transaction will be blocked. The same would happen when you've reached the (credit) limit of your "traditional" card.

                bunq doesn't offer payment in instalments. This service is only possible when a merchant offers it. bunq doesn't provide any kind of loans; paying in instalments is just a kind of loan, hence: not possible at bunq. I've never seen bunq advertising this. I'm pretty sure that you are referring to something else, but if you happen to have a link or something then I'd be happy when you prove me wrong. 😄

We can disagree due to the fact that the card does not operate with a credit line issue by bank, still, the core program of the card is of the credit cards type...... so it is a Mastercard credit card.

                    @Sander#163887 indeed, I was not aware of the way it is working with respect to the money blocked on the IBAN account. I have to re read the GT&C and see with you how to organize ang get the IBAN account. At the moment, I only have the green card. Sorry for this.                       J'ai lu il y a quelque temps que les paiements en plusieurs fois ne fonctionnent qu'avec des cartes émises par une banque française (sauf Electron ou prépayée). Même si la carte Travel est techniquement indiquée comme une carte de « crédit », Bunq n'est pas une banque française, c'est pourquoi elle est refusée.

                      Je pourrais me tromper si cela a changé récemment, mais comme c'est effectivement un prêt, je pense que cela est toujours appliqué

                        Par définition, une carte de « crédit » fait « crédit ». C’est à dire que la banque avance l’argent au client.
                        Évidemment, le taux d’acceptation d’une telle carte est de 100%, c’est logique.

                        Les paiements « n fois » (en 3 ou 4 fois), dépendent du prestataire de paiement, et non de la banque. La carte Bunq (même la Maestro), devrait être acceptée.

                        Je suis pour Bunq, mais c’est un constat, le vieux système bancaire déteste les neo-banques, et tant que Bunq ne proposera pas d’iban Français il y aura toujours des problèmes, même si c’est illégal de refuser un IBAN Européen.
                        Concernant la fameuse carte, ok la puce est codée avec un système « crédit », mais se ne sera jamais une carte de crédit comme avec une ligne de crédit.

                        Je comprends que ça en énerve certains, mais alors que quelqu’un m’explique que la carte Bunq a une ligne de crédit... Non ? Et bien ce n’est donc pas une carte de crédit.
                        Pas possible de dépasser son solde = pas de crédit = pas de carte de crédit.

                          Read my post above. It annoys me that people here keep sharing false information, which affects potential new customers. Behind the scenes the bunq cards have a credit line. But you basically provide your own credit. The credit limit is kept in sync with your account balance. Does the balance on your IBAN lower? Then the credit limit of your card lowers too. Bought something? Then bunq immediately reserves the money from the iban, which lowers your balance. And that, in turn, lowers your remaining spending limit on the card again. bunq settles the "debts" of your card every month (I believe, maybe the period is slightly different?) but given that bunq immediately reserved the money when you paid, bunq knows for sure that it has the funds to settle the debt. Behind the scenes it fully complies with all regulations of creditcards.😉

                          Perhaps it doesn't comply with your view of a creditcard, that's fine and perfectly possible of course. Then bunqs.offering might not be suitable for you, and you'll need to find a service that does fit your needs. But that doesn't mean that bunq doesn't offer real creditcards. They are as real as can be. A company like Mastercard wouldn't let someone put their logo on a card that is a "fake" product.. 😝

                          If you wish to verify all this then just open a chat with support. They should be able to explain it as well. But please stop saying here that the cards are not "real", that's just not true. 😕

                                When you order a bunq card as a French resident your card will be 'issued' as a French card. Sometimes a merchant doesn't have an up-to-date database of card numbers resulting in your card not being recognized properly concerning the country of issuance or they only check the first 6 numbers, where bunq users the 7th and 8th number to indicate the country. This is where most problems occur with the cards online.
